Why the change

This follows up on #2394/#2416. The chat's edge fades went almost opaque right at the composer's top edge and at the header's lower edge, so each fade read as a hard band; Grok's only reaches opaque close to the screen edge. Also, the Android header's round Back, title chip and right button touched each other. Phone QA on #2416 also found message text showing through the gesture-bar strip on a coloured dark background / 渐变过硬、顶栏三个形状贴在一起、彩色背景手势条漏字。

Refs #2394, #2416.

Special things to note

  • Merge risk: the bottom mask is shared by iOS and Android since fix(mobile): draw the chat's bottom mask on iOS instead of UIKit's edge effect #2398, so iOS's bottom fade changes too. The top fade and header spacing are Android-only. The resting space below the newest message (edgeFade.bottom) is unchanged.
  • Curve: the fade holds fully opaque across the safe-area strip (home indicator, status bar). From there it follows opacity = (1 − d)^1.6 out to edgeFade.reach (48) past the composer or header.
  • Verification: typecheck ✅, apps/mobile vitest ✅ (971), lint ✅, CI green on ffb3e272. Android phone QA ✅ on ffb3e272 (Xiaomi, Android 16), see below. The iOS bottom fade hasn't been captured yet: the QA rig has no iPhone.

Change outline

  • edgeFadeStops(height, cover, solid): opaque across solid (the safe-area inset), then one eased curve. The new tokens are edgeFade.reach, curve and samples; cover and the unused top are removed.
  • Fade heights are composerHeight + edgeFade.reach and listTop + edgeFade.reach.
  • Android headerTitle wrapper: marginHorizontal: space.x3.

Phone QA (Xiaomi, Android 16, ffb3e272)

Default dark Lavender dark Lavender light

What the screenshots show:

  • The gesture strip is clean in every shot: at rest, scrolling up and under the header.
  • There is faint text between + and the field, as intended.
  • After theme switches, the name chip still shows the full name.

The rest of the screenshots are in .github/pr-screenshots/2425-android-chat-chrome/phone/ at commit 015a7cc0.

The chat's edge mask reached near-full opacity at the composer's top, so
the fade read as a hard band. It is now one soft curve from fully opaque at
the screen edge to clear edgeFade.reach past the composer or header, like
Grok's. The Android header's round Back, title chip and computer button
now sit space.x3 apart instead of touching.

📝 Walkthrough

Chat edge fades now use a sampled opacity curve with a shared reach value. The non-iOS conversation header title container adds horizontal margins. Tests and changelog entries reflect these changes.

Changes: Chat UI adjustments

Configure and apply sampled edge fades
apps/mobile/src/ui/design/tokens.ts, apps/mobile/src/ui/chat/edge-fade.ts, apps/mobile/src/ui/chat/conversation-screen.tsx, apps/mobile/test/edge-fade.test.ts, apps/mobile/test/conversation-navigation.test.tsx, apps/mobile/DESIGN.md
The fade settings now define reach, curve, and samples. edgeFadeStops generates uniformly spaced offsets with curve-based opacity. Both fades use the shared reach, and tests check the updated height and opacity behavior.

Explanation

The description covers the problem, references, merge risk, verification results, Android QA evidence, change outline, and the iOS capture blocker. It does not state the CI test-plan mode, and it does not provide the required Expo/React Native acceptance matrix for iOS and Android at default, intermediate, and maximum font sizes in light and dark modes with native interactions and matched screenshots.

Resolution

Add the selected CI test-plan mode and identify the applicable scripts/ci-plan.mjs rule if required. Add the system-text acceptance results for both platforms, all three font sizes, both themes, native interactions, and matched screenshots. List each blocked or unrun case separately, including the missing iOS device validation and any unavailable screenshots or font-size cases.

Remove the unused edgeFade.top token.

edgeFade.reach controls the chat fade height, while edgeFade.bottom controls the resting space below the newest message. No mobile consumer reads edgeFade.top.

Phone QA on a coloured dark background showed messages through the
gesture-bar strip below the composer. The fade now stays fully opaque
across the bottom (or status-bar) safe area before its soft curve starts.
Also drops the unused edgeFade.top token.

iOS 27 Simulator at ffb3e27: pass. These were checked in a Bot DM on the dev client, with the Host on this branch.

  • Home indicator strip: pass. Below the composer there's a solid background, with no gradient band or edge. This holds at rest and when scrolled, in light and dark, on the default and the light purple background.
  • Text showing between + and the input: faint, when scrolled, as expected.
  • Header buttons: pass. Back, the Xiaoce pill and the right button are separate glass pills, with clear gaps between them.
Default Light purple Light purple, scrolled
Light
Dark

A side note that isn't from this PR: in dark mode on the light purple background, the gray activity lines ("posted 2 messages in #Review Room…") have low contrast.
