Summary

  • Demonstrate caller-owned KeyA/KeyD/Space and ArrowLeft/ArrowRight/Enter bindings routing to stable moveLeft, moveRight, and confirm semantic actions through the existing createActionMap API.
  • Validate the complete binding set before controller creation; unknown action IDs and duplicate source IDs fail before dispatch.
  • Extend dry-run smoke coverage and document the caller/OpenController boundary and limits.

Source evidence

  • Accessible-Chess issue #5 describes app-owned aliases and conflict handling for keyboard accessibility. This is one adjacent issue thread, not gamepad or OpenController evidence.
  • OpenAI Developer Community game demo describes adding arrow/space bindings to a project that began with WASD. This is one project example.
  • As recorded in the Cycle 8 decision, these signals support low-to-medium confidence in recurrence; the work is intentionally limited to a runnable example and docs using the existing API.

Acceptance scope and boundary

The smoke check exercises both binding sets with the same moveLeft action, checks a confirm command, and verifies unknown actions and duplicate source IDs are rejected without creating replay output. Everything runs on the dry-run adapter without physical hardware.

The docs state that OpenController does not capture keyboard or physical gamepad input, change OS/Steam remapping, or provide a settings UI or persistent profile. Dry-run results establish OpenController command/state behavior only; they make no host, browser, Steam, device, or game input claim.

Validation

  • bun run check:dry-run-examples — passed (dry-run example checks and MCP controller smoke checks).
  • bun run typecheck — passed.
  • bun run lint — passed (Biome checked 157 files).
  • git diff --check — passed.
  • bun run examples/basic-dry-run/ai-agent-integration.ts — passed; both binding-set runs completed on dry-run.

Closes #61
