Server Administration

This guide covers everything you need to run and manage Music Craft on your Paper server.

In-Game Commands

All commands start with /musiccraft (or the alias /music):

Command Permission Description
/musiccraft status musiccraft.use Displays currently playing jukeboxes and connected modded players.
/musiccraft jukebox musiccraft.use Opens the music player GUI for the jukebox in front of you.
/musiccraft stop musiccraft.control Stops music on the jukebox you are targeting (if you have permission).
/musiccraft admin reload musiccraft.admin Hot-reloads config.yml and refreshes the server's local MP3 folder.

Default permissions:

  • musiccraft.use: Given to all players by default so anyone can right-click and enjoy jukeboxes.
  • musiccraft.control: Allows skipping, pausing, and stopping playback on active jukeboxes.
  • musiccraft.admin: Grants access to configuration reloading and administrative commands.

Hosting Custom Server MP3s

You can let players listen to custom soundtracks, community playlists, or ambient music directly from your server without hosting external web servers:

  1. Navigate to your server directory: plugins/MusicCraft/music/.
  2. Drop your .mp3 files in.
  3. Name your files using the Artist - Track Name.mp3 format for automatic metadata detection (e.g. C418 - Aria Math.mp3).
  4. Optional Sidecar: If you want custom credit notes or fine-grained attribution, create a JSON file with the same filename (e.g. theme.mp3 and theme.json):
    {
      "title": "Custom Theme",
      "artist": "Community Musician",
      "credit": "Composed by Community Musician for our SMP"
    }
  5. Run /musiccraft admin reload in the console or in-game.

Tip

Audio files stream through the regular Minecraft network packets. You do not need to open any extra ports on your router, firewall, or server host!

Internet Radio Configuration

Music Craft brings real-world internet radio right into Minecraft:

  • Automatic Location: By default (radio-country: auto), the plugin detects where your server is physically hosted and populates the radio station list with top local broadcasts.
  • Manual Country Code: If you want stations from a specific country, open plugins/MusicCraft/config.yml and set radio-country to any 2-letter ISO code (e.g. radio-country: US or radio-country: IN).
  • Global Stations: Players can also click the global toggle inside the Radio tab to discover stations worldwide.
  • Network Requirements: The Paper server only needs normal outbound HTTPS access to fetch radio directory data and audio streams from station broadcasters.
