feat(contracts): verify contract sources at deploy time - #2348
Conversation
The protocol, sale and upgrade scripts now record each contract they deploy and, after writing their records, submit its exact compiler input (default build profile, constructor arguments, linked libraries) to Sourcify, and to Etherscan when ETHERSCAN_API_KEY is set. Verifiers no longer have to guess our settings (bytecodeHash none, 1 optimizer run, paris, stripped revert strings). hardhat-verify 3.0.8 adds Sourcify and is the last release that accepts Hardhat 3.0.11. A failed submission is reported without changing the exit code; SKIP_SOURCE_VERIFICATION=1 turns verification off.
Contracts that another contract creates (the ProxyAdmin of each proxy, the FOLD token and auction of the sale deployer) are not submitted, and the retry note now says what the production-profile fallback does.

- Line 143: Update the SKIP_SOURCE_VERIFICATION check in the source verification
flow to skip only when its value is exactly "1"; values such as "0" must
continue through verification and preserve recorded deployments.
- Line 199: Update verifyOnNetwork to wait for each recorded deployment
transaction independently instead of awaiting only
deployments[deployments.length - 1]. Report wait failures with the associated
deployment address, then continue submitting records whose confirmation waits
succeed so one failed transaction cannot prevent earlier successful deployments
from being submitted.
Review comments at
@packages/interfold-contracts/test/Deployment/SourceVerification.spec.ts:
- Line 70: Make the “submits nothing from a local chain” test independent by
creating a local deployment before calling verifyRecordedDeployments(), so
recordedDeployments() is populated without relying on earlier tests.

A run that stopped on a reverted deployment waited only on that last transaction, so its error skipped every earlier contract. Each deployment now waits for its own confirmations, and a reverted one is reported while the others are still submitted. Failure lines use the short ethers message. SKIP_SOURCE_VERIFICATION skips only for 1 or true, so 0 verifies. The local-chain test deploys its own contract instead of relying on earlier tests.
What and why
The Sourcify team asked us to verify contract sources at deploy time. Our compiler settings
(
bytecodeHash: none, 1 optimizer run,evmVersion: paris, stripped revert strings) and linkedlibraries make our metadata hard to guess, so they have been verifying our mainnet contracts by
hand.
The protocol, sale, and upgrade deploy scripts now publish the source of each contract that they
deploy, at the end of the run:
scripts/sourceVerification.tsrecords each contract that the sharedconnect()connectiondeploys (
getContractFactory(...).deployanddeployContract), with its exact constructorarguments (overrides dropped), linked libraries, and creation transaction.
verifyRecordedDeployments()submits each contract toSourcify, and to Etherscan when
ETHERSCAN_API_KEYis set. It uses a separate Hardhat runtimepinned to the deploy network and to the
defaultbuild profile. Without it, the plugin connectsto Hardhat's default network when a script runs under
tsx. Its first attempt also compiles withthe
productionprofile, whose settings differ; the fallback then submits every source file ofthe project.
reported, and the others are still submitted. It skips local and in-process chains.
SKIP_SOURCE_VERIFICATION=1(ortrue) turns it off.deployment is complete, and a failed exit would invite a re-run that deploys again.
@nomicfoundation/hardhat-verifygoes from 3.0.5 to 3.0.8 (pinned). 3.0.6 added Sourcify; 3.0.9and later need Hardhat ^3.1.6, and we pin 3.0.11.
pnpm verify:contractsnow submitsto Sourcify too, and no longer fails on a missing key.
