A bulk retry over 500 exchanges was a dead end: the dialog said to narrow the filter by hand. The cap is there because one request retries every exchange in sequence and must finish before the gateway gives up.

The cap stays per request. The preview now works out up to 5,000 and returns targets, the attempts that will run, and the dialog sends them back as ids in rounds of 500 with progress.

  • Rounds send the planned attempts, not the selection, so a round can't reach an attempt an earlier round just made.
  • A failed round stops the run and says how many were already retried; Retry isn't offered again on the stale plan.
  • Closing the dialog stops after the round under way.
  • Past 5,000 the dialog still asks to narrow the filter.

Checked locally on 520 failed exchanges: one click, two requests (500 + 20), each exchange retried once.

📝 Summary

Summary

  • Bulk retry previews now support up to 5,000 exchanges.
  • Execution remains limited to 500 exchange IDs per request.
  • The API returns targets; the UI submits them in sequential rounds.
  • The UI reports progress and stops later rounds after closure or failure.
  • Selections above 5,000 still require a narrower filter.

Risk

risk:medium

The main risk is partial completion across retry rounds. Server-side validation and authorization of submitted IDs remain important.

Security-sensitive areas

No authentication or authorization logic changed. Bulk ID validation and retry authorization remain security-sensitive.

Test coverage impact

Tests cover preview targets, multi-round execution, progress, failed rounds, skipped exchanges, and the 5,000-selection limit. Test execution results were not supplied.

Operational concerns

  • No migration is indicated.
  • Roll back the API and UI changes together because the response model changed.
  • Failed rounds can leave a partially retried selection.
  • Review finding severity counts are unavailable.

Bulk retry previews can include up to 5,000 targets. Execution remains limited to 500 targets per request. The web client submits larger plans in rounds and displays progress, cancellation, and failure status.

Layer / File(s) Summary
Retry planning and target contract
SW.Bitween.Api/Resources/Xchanges/BulkRetry*.cs, SW.Bitween.Sdk/Model/Xchange.cs, SW.Bitween.IntegrationTests/Tests/RetryChainTests.cs
The planner accepts a limit for each operation. Preview selection supports up to 5,000 targets, while retry requests remain limited to 500. Plans expose deduplicated retry targets. Integration tests cover target resolution and limit handling.
Web retry rounds and progress
SW.Bitween.Web/ClientApp/src/api/*, SW.Bitween.Web/ClientApp/src/pages/exchanges/*, docs/api-reference.md, docs/retries-and-alerts.md
The web client submits preview targets in batches, tracks progress, and stops subsequent rounds after cancellation or failure. The dialog displays progress and errors. Tests and documentation cover the round-based behavior.

Large previews may be slower, and a retry dialog reopened during an unfinished round can close unexpectedly and lose the current selection. These are bounded issues to fix or explicitly accept before merging.

366-367: 🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration

The cache hierarchy already invalidates the preview.

keys.exchanges.bulkRetryPreview(...) is keyed below keys.exchanges.all. Therefore, queryClient.invalidateQueries({ queryKey: keys.exchanges.all }) marks the preview stale, and reopening the dialog refetches it instead of serving it as fresh for 30 seconds. The proposed removeQueries call is not required.

Use a set for target membership checks.

BulkRetryPreview can process up to 5,000 resolved IDs. When those IDs map to distinct eligible targets, targets.Contains(targetId) performs up to about 12.5 million equality checks. Keep the list for insertion order and use a HashSet<string> for membership.

Suggested fix
         var plan = new XchangeBulkRetryPlan { Selected = selected.Count, Limit = Limit, MaxSelection = MaxSelection };
         var targets = new List<string>();
+        var targetSet = new HashSet<string>();

         foreach (var selectedId in selected)
         {
             var targetId = newestAttempt[selectedId];
@@
-            if (!targets.Contains(targetId))
+            if (targetSet.Add(targetId))
                 targets.Add(targetId);

The selection and dialog state can be overwritten by a stale round completion. The close handler stops later rounds but does not cancel the pending mutation or clear the selection. If the user reopens the dialog while the request is pending, the old onSuccess handler can close that dialog and clear its current selection.

Guard completion with the operation’s dialog/selection identity, or invalidate the operation when the dialog closes. Do not run clearSelection() or setBulkConfirm(false) when the completion belongs to an older run.
