Summary

  • update the direct Rust dependencies to their current compatible releases
  • remove the unused direct bytes dependency
  • declare the repository URL, default binary, and Rust 1.85 MSRV
  • keep fork at 0.8.0: 0.9+ currently requires Rust 1.88

Validation

  • cargo +1.85.0 check --all-targets
  • cargo +1.85.0 test --all-targets
  • cargo +1.85.0 test --doc
  • cargo fmt --all -- --check

The lockfile remains ignored, consistent with the repository's existing policy.

Question: lately I got the habit to just specify major and minor versions, this way updates create less noise. What do you think?

it is fine until you need to add the micro to make deps.rs and friends happy about exploitable versions.
