📝 Walkthrough

This pull request adds persisted native indexes and prebuilt runtime archives, shared build-cache helpers, and a guest ABI interface for translated code. It also moves installer progress reporting into a common setup assembly and adds verification for disc-extraction reuse.

Changes: Native index and runtime build

Layer / File(s) Summary
Native index format and resolution
translator/src/Translator.Core/NativeSourceParsing.cs, translator/src/Translator.Core/RuntimeNativeIndex*.cs, translator/src/Translator.Core/RuntimeNativeIndexFile.cs, translator/tests/Translator.Tests/RuntimeNativeIndexTests.cs
The translator computes source digests and reads or writes deterministic native-index files. Resolution uses a valid index or rebuilds from native sources. Tests cover serialization, digest stability, stale indexes, and fallback.
Native index command and project wiring
translator/src/Translator.Cli/*, translator/src/Translator.Core/Build/TranslatedBuildShardEmitter.cs, translator/src/Translator.Core/CodeGen/CxxLinearCodeGenerator.cs, translator/README.md, translator/tests/Translator.Tests/TranslatedBuildShardEmitterTests.cs
The CLI adds emit-native-index and allows shard generation to resolve a configured index. Project configuration accepts an index path, and shard validation no longer requires native sources when an index is supplied. Generated code includes the guest ABI header.
Runtime fingerprint and provider selection
runtime/CMakeLists.txt, runtime/cmake/*
CMake fingerprints runtime inputs and selects a source-built or prebuilt archive based on platform, CPU profile, and matching fingerprints. Runtime targets, product links, and export metadata support the selected provider.
Runtime archive packaging and validation
Launcher/Build-Installer.ps1, Launcher/Prepare-NativePrebuilt.*, Launcher/build-appimage.sh, Launcher/macos/build-setup-pkg.command
Packaging scripts harvest and validate the runtime archive where configured, record runtime provenance, and generate a native index in staged workspaces.
Incremental build and workspace synchronization
Launcher/build-cache.sh, Launcher/local-build*, Launcher/macos/setup.command, Launcher/WiiCompiled.Setup.Windows/ToolkitFingerprint.cs, Launcher/WiiCompiled.Setup.Windows/SelfTests.cs, Launcher/build-appimage.sh, .gitignore
Shared helpers compute build identities and synchronize workspace trees. Build scripts use the helpers for translation and toolchain reuse. Windows fingerprinting uses a current native index when available and falls back to runtime-source hashes. Workspace refreshes preserve unchanged files, and the generated index is ignored by Git.

Guest ABI and runtime integration

Layer / File(s) Summary
Guest ABI contracts and header migration
runtime/include/guest_abi/*, runtime/include/guest_small_data.h, runtime/include/isa/*, runtime/include/memory.h, runtime/include/memory_access.h, runtime/include/guest_flat_memory.h, runtime/include/recomp_mod_loader.h
New guest ABI headers define PPC context, condition-register, memory, flat-memory, and execution-guard interfaces. Existing runtime headers include these interfaces or remove duplicated declarations.
Guest memory access paths
runtime/include/guest_abi/memory_access.h
Adds mapped and flat memory access helpers, checked fallbacks, byte swapping, deferred-read support, and guarded writable-pointer lookup. Scalar methods use fast paths when eligible.
Translated dispatch and generated-code integration
runtime/include/guest_abi/dispatch.h, runtime/include/abi_bridge.h, runtime/src/abi_bridge.cpp, translator/src/Translator.Core/Build/TranslatedBuildShardEmitter.cs, translator/src/Translator.Core/CodeGen/CxxLinearCodeGenerator.cs, runtime/include/guest_abi/native_cpu_calls.inc
Adds direct and indirect dispatch, registration lookup, and per-thread caches. Generated code includes the guest ABI umbrella header. Runtime code supplies missing-target reporting and translated-function lookup entry points.
Runtime state and symbol lookup integration
runtime/game/runtime_config_values.cpp, runtime/include/guest_small_data.h, runtime/src/abi_bridge.cpp, runtime/src/hle/os/os_alarm.cpp, runtime/src/main.cpp, runtime/src/system_bridge.cpp, runtime/game/setup_version.cpp
PPC register initialization uses shared small-data base constants. Crash and stack symbolization use capped nearest-function lookup. Setup-version lookup reads a per-user compiled string.

Installer progress and extraction

Layer / File(s) Summary
Shared progress reporting and platform wiring
Launcher/WiiCompiled.Setup.Common/InstallProgress.cs, Launcher/WiiCompiled.Setup.Linux/*, Launcher/WiiCompiled.Setup.Windows/*, Launcher/Test-PinnedFacts.ps1
Progress reporter types move into the common setup namespace. NDJSON reporting receives the product version, and compile progress uses valid Ninja counters. Platform callers and stage identifiers use the shared reporting code.
Verified disc extraction reuse
Launcher/WiiCompiled.Setup.Linux/DiscTool.cs, Launcher/macos/extract-disc.command
Extraction reuses existing disc files when required files and expected hashes match. Linux also writes a marker after successful extraction and removes it before replacing extracted data.

🟠 Major · Do not reuse an unvalidated DATA tree. · extract-disc.command:41-47

Launcher/macos/extract-disc.command:41-47
🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Do not reuse an unvalidated DATA tree.

When a required file is missing from DATA/files, the new guard still exits because it checks only the directory and the two top-level hashes. The macOS setup sets that directory as dvd_root. The runtime then uses it as the disc filesystem, and the repository states that a missing course, texture, or audio file causes a fatal error when the game requests it.

Until the script validates the complete tree, continue with extraction instead of exiting here.

Suggested fix
-# DATA is published before main.dol and StaticR.rel, so verified files imply a complete extraction.
-if [[ -d "$assets_dir/DATA/files" && -f "$assets_dir/main.dol" && -f "$assets_dir/StaticR.rel" ]] && \
-   [[ $(sha256 "$assets_dir/main.dol") == "$EXPECTED_DOL_SHA256" && $(sha256 "$assets_dir/StaticR.rel") == "$EXPECTED_REL_SHA256" ]]; then
- printf 'MKWCBUILD:STEP:disc-ready Reusing the verified extracted game assets\n'
- exit 0
-fi

@coderabbitai fixed the outside-diff extract-disc.command reuse issue (and the same gap in the Linux DiscTool.cs): extraction now records every DATA file's path and size, and reuse requires that list to match exactly, otherwise it re-extracts. can u check?

git diff origin/main -- Launcher/WiiCompiled.Setup.Linux/DiscTool.cs Launcher/macos/extract-disc.command

Length of output: 20577

@patchzyy Checked both files. The changes address the missing/truncated DATA-file reuse issue.

  • macOS: extract-disc.command writes .data-manifest after extraction and requires the current DATA file paths and sizes to match before reuse.
  • Linux: DiscTool.cs stores the same information in .disc-extracted and requires an exact record match before reuse.

Missing, added, renamed, or size-changed files now trigger re-extraction. Both paths still check the copied main.dol and StaticR.rel hashes.

This was a static check, not a runtime test. Same-size content changes in other DATA files remain outside this check.
