The first release of past.dev for Claude Code: the plugin, and the marketplace that carries it.

What it does

  • Recall into context, at the start of every session and with every prompt. The hooks do it, so it does not depend on the model choosing a tool. A recall gets 4 seconds (8 at session start) and is dropped after that, so it never holds a prompt up.
  • Sessions become memory. A session is sent once it is over (closed, its window quit, or quiet for 12 hours) and before a compaction, in sittings dated at their own first turn.
  • Only prose leaves the machine: prompts, replies, project and branch names. Tool output, file contents, diffs and subagent threads never do, and secret-shaped strings are redacted. /past:cut shows exactly what would be sent.
  • Five commands (/past:connect, :status, :cut, :ingest, :backfill) and a skill that searches past.dev on demand.

What to read

File What it is
README.md the front page: get started, how it works, what leaves the machine, commands, troubleshooting
plugins/past/README.md the full reference, installed with the plugin: every setting, where it keeps things
CLAUDE.md the rules the code keeps, for contributors and their agents
plugins/past/bin/past-hook.mjs the whole plugin: one file, Node 16, no dependencies
plugins/past/hooks/hooks.json, commands/, skills/ the five hooks, the five commands, the skill
.github/workflows/check.yml every pull request: the script parses on Node 14 and runs on 16 and 22, and both manifests validate
LICENSE, plugins/past/LICENSE MIT, Past Corp. The copy inside the plugin travels with an install, which copies that folder alone

How it was checked

  • claude plugin validate . and claude plugin validate plugins/past pass.
  • The script was run beside the version already in daily use, over every Claude Code transcript on a working machine, each in a throwaway home with a local stand-in for the API that kept only hashes of what arrived. All 74 requests (a full backfill among them), the stored state and every printed output are identical.
  • Installed from this branch into an empty Claude Code config: claude plugin marketplace add pastdotdev/claude-code-plugin#release-0.1.0, then claude plugin install past@past. The plugin is enabled at 0.1.0, the installed copy carries the license and an executable script, and its hooks run and exit 0 with nothing configured.
  • Not run here: the one-line /plugin install past --marketplace …, which needs an interactive session (Claude Code v2.1.275 or later).

Merging

One commit on top of the empty initial commit. Rebase or squash keeps main at those two commits.

The plugin and the marketplace that carries it. Five hooks recall from
past at the start of every session and with every prompt, and send a
session's prose to past once it is over, in sittings dated at their own
first turn. Five commands (connect, status, cut, ingest, backfill) and a
skill that searches past on demand. One script, Node 16, no dependencies.
