What and why

The rest of the "Wiring and shell" part of phase 1 (#340). Refs #340.

Open in editor (hub)

  • New open-in-editor RPC, launched through devframe's own launch-editor, so there's no new dependency. The editor comes from LAUNCH_EDITOR, then an editor that's already running, then VISUAL/EDITOR. If a host has @devframes/service-open installed, the file is handed to it after our checks.
  • Root check: only files inside the project roots open. It refuses .., symlinks whose real path is outside the roots, folders, missing files, NUL bytes and over-long paths. The request never names a command.
  • Panel: every file:line becomes an "Open in editor" button whenever a live server is connected. That covers components, signals, store, DI, pipes, routes, the route tree and Analog. The static report and the extension without a hub keep plain text.
  • Pick mode: Alt+click (Option on macOS) opens the picked component's file.
  • The RPC belongs to no inspector, so it goes into a new exported SHARED_RPC list in config.ts.

Dock group, messages and badges (hub)

  • All docks now sit in one "Pangular" group.

  • Messages: these are posted through ctx.messages:

    • agent writes (action and destructive tools, masked with the redaction helpers)
    • forms NG errors
    • failed navigations
    • hydration mismatches and NG05xx messages

They're deduped per page, and a repeat updates the first message to "(N times)". Inspectors or agent tools that are turned off post nothing.

  • Badges: each dock shows its unseen count, and the group shows the total. A dock's count clears when it's opened, through a new hub-dock-seen RPC, because the hub has no server event for rail clicks. The count is also in the dock's label, for example Angular (2 new, with errors), so screen readers announce it.

  • Contrast: inactive docks now dim only the icon, not the badge. The hub-ui info and danger badge colours are overridden to blue-600 and red-600, which brings every variant to at least 4.83:1.

pangular mcp --print-config (mcp)

  • Prints ready-to-paste setup for Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code, over stdio or the HTTP endpoint (--host, --port, --base).
  • For a hub it adds the bearer header from PANGULAR_MCP_TOKEN and shows where the token file is. The token itself is never printed.

NativeScript respects config.inspectors (overlay)

  • Only pipes respected the setting before. Components, signals, injectors, NgRx, the signal write hook and the page forget calls now follow it, the same way Angular Native does.

How it was verified

  • pnpm commit:check
  • pnpm format:check
  • pnpm typecheck (includes the ngc template checks)
  • pnpm test:devtools (2,074) and pnpm test:panel (467)
  • pnpm skills:check (.claude/ not changed)
  • Docs in apps/docs updated and pnpm docs:build passes
  • pnpm extension:build and extension/ui committed
  • Checked with axe:
    • all 37 panel views in dark and light, at full width and at 360px
    • the live "Open in editor" buttons on six pages (focus ring, name, contrast, no overflow)
    • badge contrast measured in Chromium

Notes for reviewers

Generated by Claude Code

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Click source locations in inspectors to open files in your editor. Alt/Option-click a picked component to open its source while still selecting it.
    • Generate MCP client setup instructions with mcp --print-config, including settings for a local project or running hub.
    • View hub messages for errors, navigation failures, hydration issues, and agent actions. Dock badges show unread counts and clear when you open a dock.
    • The hub groups its tools under Pangular and remembers the last selected dock.
  • Improvements
    • Inactive dock icons are easier to distinguish from badges in dark themes.
    • NativeScript inspector settings now control which data is collected.

Only pipes respected config.inspectors. Components, signals, injectors,
NgRx, the signal write hook and the page forget calls ran either way. They
now follow the config, the same way the Angular Native overlay does.

Refs #340

Refs #340
…nd badges

- New open-in-editor RPC through devframe's launch-editor. It only opens

  component's file
- The docks sit in one "Pangular" group
- Agent writes, forms NG errors, failed navigations and hydration problems

dock badges that clear when the dock is opened

Refs #340
Dim only the icon of an inactive dock so its badge keeps full contrast,
and darken hub-ui's info and danger badge colors to pass 4.5:1. Put the
badge count in the dock title, which labels the button, and render the
source link's message only when there is one.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The pull request adds editor-opening support to the panel and overlay, hub message notifications and dock badges, MCP configuration printing, and inspector-based collection gating for NativeScript.

Changes

Editor opening and source links

Layer / File(s) Summary
Register and validate editor requests
packages/devtools/src/rpc/open-in-editor.ts, packages/devtools/src/config.ts, packages/devtools/src/devframe.ts, packages/devtools/src/__tests__/*, packages/devtools/src/rpc/__tests__/open-in-editor.test.ts
The server registers open-in-editor, resolves files within configured roots, validates positions, and returns launch results. The RPC remains available when inspectors are disabled and is not registered as an agent tool.
Open picked component sources
packages/devtools/src/component-pick.ts, packages/devtools/src/overlay.ts, app/src/app.ts, packages/devtools/src/__tests__/component-pick.test.ts, packages/devtools/src/__tests__/overlay-open-in-editor.test.ts
Alt-click picks include source metadata and request editor opening when the source is known. The overlay sends the request, and the panel installs an editor opener.
Render inspector source links
app/src/ui/source-link.ts, app/src/pages/*, app/src/__tests__/source-link.test.ts, packages/devtools/src/__tests__/analog-inspector.test.ts, apps/docs/src/content/inspectors/components.md, apps/docs/src/content/security.md, apps/docs/src/content/getting-started/overlay.md, extension/ui/*
Inspector source locations use SourceLink. The component renders text when editor access is unavailable and displays failed-open messages. Documentation describes the editor flow and its path restrictions.

Hub docks and notifications

Layer / File(s) Summary
Group docks and render badges
packages/devtools/src/hub-docks.ts, packages/devtools/src/brand.ts, packages/devtools/src/hub.ts, app/src/hub-rail-style.ts, packages/devtools/src/__tests__/hub-docks.test.ts, packages/devtools/src/__tests__/hub.test.ts, app/src/__tests__/hub-rail-style.test.ts, apps/docs/src/content/getting-started/popup-and-hub.md
The hub registers a Pangular group with All tools as its default child. Dock entries support badges, and the rail styles preserve badge contrast.
Aggregate hub messages
packages/devtools/src/hub-messages.ts, packages/devtools/src/__tests__/hub-messages.test.ts, apps/docs/src/content/agents/tools.md, apps/docs/src/content/getting-started/popup-and-hub.md
The feed reports eligible agent writes and inspector events. It masks and deduplicates messages, tracks repeats, and calculates unseen dock counts.
Connect feed and clear seen counts
packages/devtools/src/devframe.ts, app/src/app.ts, packages/devtools/src/__tests__/hub.test.ts, packages/devtools/src/__tests__/hub-messages.test.ts, app/src/__tests__/full-panel-link.test.ts
Devframe forwards events to the feed and registers dock-seen handling. The panel reports opened docks, and the feed updates badges when docks or the group are seen.

MCP client configuration output

Layer / File(s) Summary
Generate client configurations
packages/devtools/src/mcp-print-config.ts, packages/devtools/src/__tests__/mcp-print-config.test.ts
The printer generates stdio and HTTP configurations, normalizes endpoints, quotes shell arguments, and avoids printing token values.
Expose print-config CLI option
packages/devtools/src/cli.ts, packages/devtools/src/__tests__/mcp-print-config.test.ts, apps/docs/src/content/agents/mcp-server.md, apps/docs/src/content/getting-started/cli.md
The mcp command prints the generated configuration and returns before project preparation or command execution. The documentation describes the option and its flags.

NativeScript inspector configuration

Layer / File(s) Summary
Gate overlay inspectors by configuration
packages/devtools/src/overlay-nativescript.ts, packages/devtools/src/__tests__/overlay-nativescript-inspectors.test.ts, apps/docs/src/content/getting-started/nativescript.md
NativeScript overlay setup conditions collectors, hooks, and cleanup calls on the configured inspectors. The guide describes inspector collection and redaction behavior.

Merge Risk | 🔵 Low · up to 73ee3

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 73ee3

The MCP config printer now warns when a bearer token would travel over plain HTTP to a non-loopback host, and --https is available. It still prints the HTTP configuration after the warning, so users must act on it. The change is mergeable with that caveat.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 73ee3

Project-file validation, existing access controls and secret masking limit the new capabilities’ exposure. No material security regression was established, but downstream editor behavior and notification cleanup are not fully verified.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The editor capability gives reachable RPC clients authority to request opening an existing regular file within the union of workspace, working-directory and served-app roots on the developer’s machine. The inspected handler does not return file contents or accept a command, but the effective downstream behavior depends on the host’s editor integration.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Before launching, the editor handler rejects invalid or oversized paths and NUL bytes, checks lexical containment, checks canonical containment against canonical roots, and requires a regular file. Line and column values are bounded positive integers. These controls constrain both path traversal and request-supplied position arguments.
  • observed — Page ownership protects report ingress; agent exposure and safety gates remain before tool wrapping. Feed page labels are derived from supplied arguments and are informational, not an additional authorization check. The inspected navigation handler independently selects an existing page and enforces the router action gate before requesting execution.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Feed history is bounded, but its state transitions are separate: idle expiry removes per-page deduplication keys, host removal or clearing removes posted aggregation entries, and dock-seen acknowledgement clears unseen counts. HubFeed exposes no page-forget or disposal operation. These facts establish lifecycle uncertainty, not a demonstrated cross-page authorization failure.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Define notification failure, retry, page-forget and teardown semantics so publication, deduplication and unseen state converge after interruption. Keep the feed explicitly best-effort unless publication acknowledgement supports stronger guarantees.
  • proposed — Apply URL-mode sanitization at the notification sink as defense in depth. The normal router producer already uses URL-mode redaction, while the feed uses general text masking and report validation does not establish sanitization. No introduced secret-disclosure path was verified.

Do not print a credentialed HTTP URL for a non-loopback host.

If a user sets --host 192.168.1.20 --base /__devframes/, the printed clients send the hub bearer token to http://192.168.1.20. A network-path observer can capture that token and use it to access the hub’s MCP endpoint. The localhost default does not protect this supported host setting. Accept an HTTPS endpoint for non-loopback hosts, or reject credentialed non-loopback HTTP configurations. (code.claude.com)

The printed HTTP server is now pangular-live, so a local stdio entry
named pangular no longer hides it. --print-config takes --https, and
warns when a hub on a non-loopback host would send the token over http.

Refs #340
Unseen errors and warnings are counted apart. The dock title says
"with errors" when an error is unseen, else "with warnings"; the badge
stays red for both.

The no-change check skipped every answer that starts with "No", which would
hide a real change such as "No longer paused; recording resumed." It now
matches only the no-data openings the tools return.

Also splits the "One overlay per page" paragraph into shorter sentences.
