These hallucinations start as a faint, unknown landscape and gradually become a completely immersive, alternate reality that replaces their actual surroundings. Over time, the person becomes functionally blind and deaf to the real world, instead interacting solely with their perceived hallucination, which often depicts a "better" version of their own life. Eventually, they lose voluntary control of their body, which appears to be manipulated by an unseen force, and may even voice questions or statements suggesting another consciousness is inhabiting their body.
