Fixes #12967
Clause-②: yes (widening)

What changed

One rule for both doors: a row action's templates read the row as record, the way the record header's do.

  • @object-ui/core ActionRunner. A new private templateEvaluatorFor(action) returns the evaluator a dispatch's authored copy is read through. When the dispatch carries a row under params._rowRecord, it binds that row as record for this dispatch only. The row wins over a page-level record, and the runner's own context is not touched. confirmText is read through it. The param-collection handler now receives a third argument, interpolate, bound to the same scope.
  • @object-ui/app-shell. Both param-collection handlers (useConsoleActionRuntime, RecordDetailView) apply interpolate to the localized description. The console handler does this BEFORE it joins the admin-override notice, because approver names are data and must never be read as a template. Both put interpolate on the dialog state. ActionParamDialog applies it to each param's helpText after an inline per-locale map is picked, so the hole is filled on the text the user reads.
  • No grid change. ObjectGrid already passes the row as _rowRecord.

Why the runner is the narrowest shared point (A1)

  • Header context, measured. RecordDetailView's ActionProvider context is { record: pageRecord or {}, objectName, objectFields?, user, org }.
  • Grid context, measured. The grid's row dispatch is { ...def, actionParams?, params: { _rowRecord: row } }, fired through the list page's runner, whose context carries no record.
  • Why the runner. Every row surface fires through ActionRunner.execute, and it is the one place confirmText is evaluated. Binding there fixes every row door at once.
  • Other callers that dispatch with a row, and whether they now get record:
    • ObjectGrid row actions: yes. This is the card's door.
    • RelatedRecordActionsBridge (a related list's row actions): yes, and the child row now wins over the parent page's record.
    • DeclaredActionsBar: yes. It stashes the page record, so nothing changes.
    • containers.tsx page-header dispatch: yes. Same record.
    • action-button.tsx update write: yes. Same record.
    • ObjectGrid's per-record bulk dispatch: not affected. It strips confirmText and the params before dispatch, and BulkActionDialog prints its own multi-row confirm. That dialog is out of scope (see Acceptance notes).
  • Why interpolate instead of pre-filling the strings. The runner cannot fill description / helpText itself before calling the handler. The handler localizes that copy AFTER it receives it, either from a translation-bundle entry or from an inline per-locale map. A pre-filled literal would lose to an unfilled translation. That is why the runner hands over a function and not a filled string.

Missing-field degradation (A2)

On the header, ${record.no_such_field} reads undefined and the hole prints empty: Pause ?. Before this change the row printed the raw source. It now prints the same empty hole. A hole whose root is unbound (no row, no record) stays as authored, which is the evaluator's existing answer.

Ruled scope

  • No new action key.
  • A toast's ${result.*} is unchanged. Pin (d) covers this.
  • The card's "refuse at declaration if a hole cannot be filled on some door" is not done. Both doors now fill, so no declaration-time check is added.

Tests

Final head 9bcaded76f.

  • packages/core/src/actions/__tests__/ActionRunner.rowRecordTemplates-12967.test.ts pins:
    • (a) confirmText is filled on the header and on the row;
    • the row wins over a page record;
    • (b) interpolate fills description / helpText on both doors;
    • (c) CONTROL: a missing field degrades the same way on both doors;
    • CONTROL: a dispatch without a row is unchanged;
    • (d) CONTROL: a toast's ${result.*} is unchanged.
  • packages/plugin-grid/src/__tests__/rowActionRecordHole-12967.test.tsx runs the same action through a real ObjectGrid row menu and through a header-shaped ActionProvider, for (a) and (c).
  • packages/app-shell/src/views/ActionParamDialog.recordHoles-12967.test.tsx checks that the real dialog fills a string helpText and a per-locale map helpText. CONTROL: without interpolate, helpText prints as authored.
  • Handler cases were added to RecordDetailView.paramDialogTitle.test.tsx and useConsoleActionRuntime.overrideNotice.test.tsx. They cover: the description is filled after localization, the override notice is never interpolated, and interpolate reaches the state.
  • RecordDetailView.paramRuntimeParity-6431.test.tsx lists the fields the dialog reads off its state. That list gains interpolate.
  • Ablation, run once. templateEvaluatorFor's return new ExpressionEvaluator({ ...this.context, record: row }); was replaced with return this.evaluator; through ablation-replace.mjs (anchor x1 to x0). Result: 6 failed, 2 passed. (a) went red on both files, for example Expected "Pause Acme?" / Received "Pause ${record.display_name}?". (c) showed the pre-fix row degradation (raw source). The restore was proven by blob: edf7176c00c7 after restore equals HEAD, and git diff HEAD is empty. Tests resolve @object-ui/core to src through the root vitest alias, so no dist rebuild was involved.

Gates (local, on 9bcaded76f)

  • Type-check: type-check exited 0 for core, app-shell and plugin-grid, after building the app-shell dependency closure. Every touched test is in its package's tsconfig.test.json file list (checked with --listFilesOnly).
  • Targeted vitest, one package at a time. These are the new files plus every test file named after ActionRunner, ActionParamDialog or row actions, or naming confirmText, _rowRecord or the param handler:
    • core: 24 files, 376 tests;
    • app-shell: 37 files, 527 tests (the parity pin above went red, was updated and re-ran 9/9);
    • plugin-grid: 12 files, 145 tests;
    • the rest: 22 files, 537 tests.
  • Not run locally: whole-package directories. They are left to CI.
  • eslint, narrowed to the 10 changed files (--no-inline-config, JSON format): 10 files, 0 errors. The config enables no type-aware linting, so this diff cannot change the verdict on any untouched file.
  • Battery: exit 0 on all of these. check:phantom-deps, self-import, unreferenced-sources, doc-example-readers, handler-key-reads, side-effects-array, element-data-source-declaration, spec-symbols, action-forward-parity, designer-field-key-parity, icon-record-names, i18n-keys, i18n-drift, i18n-designer-parity, control-bytes, new-line-citations, check-hand-rolled-comment-mask.mjs, check-changeset-fixed.mjs, check-changeset-presence.mjs.
  • check:spec-floors: exit 1. This is pre-existing on main, as the dispatch noted. No manifest is touched.

Acceptance notes

  • Not filed: BulkActionDialog's confirm. It prints def.confirmText raw for a multi-row selection. There is no single record there, so a ${record.*} hole cannot be filled by this rule. Observation only.
  • Changeset. @object-ui/core minor (the widened exported ParamCollectionHandler), @object-ui/app-shell patch. The plugin-grid change is a test file only.

…e header's

The runner evaluated `confirmText` in its own context, which binds `record`
on the record header and nothing on a list row, so the same
`${record.display_name}` read filled from the header and raw from a row.
The runner now binds a dispatch's `params._rowRecord` as `record` for that
dispatch's templates, and hands the param-collection handler an
`interpolate` that fills the dialog's `description` and `helpText` holes in
the same scope, after localization.

The same action's `confirmText` reads filled from a record header and from a
real ObjectGrid row; the param dialog's `description` and `helpText` are
filled through the runner's `interpolate`; a missing field degrades the same
way on both doors; a toast's `${result.*}` is unchanged.

…a dialog field

Both param runtimes now put the runner's `interpolate` on the dialog state
(objectui#12967), so the field list the parity pin enumerates gains it.

Contract review

Served-tier: CONTRACT_REVIEW_TIER
Head-sha: 9bcaded76ffc487e889b9c28260d70a17625ab1e
Local-runs: none

Inputs read: card #12967 (body, triage 6250766637, claim 6251848893 as amended, os-dev-report 6252196216), PR #12979 (body, 11 files, net diff), the head's 35 check-runs, and the main source the diff touches (read-only, for ①).

① Derived judgments

Public-surface changes — the diff implies exactly two, both as claimed. Right.

  • @object-ui/core: the exported type ParamCollectionHandler (reached through packages/core/src/actions/index.ts → export * from './ActionRunner.js') gains an optional third parameter interpolate?: (text: string) => string. Pure widening: TypeScript accepts an implementation with fewer parameters, so an existing handler that ignores the argument type-checks and behaves exactly as before (the runner still calls it with the same first two arguments; the third is ignored). The in-repo consumers that only forward the type (packages/react/src/hooks/useActionRunner.ts, packages/react/src/context/ActionContext.tsx) are untouched and still compile against the widened alias.
  • @object-ui/app-shell: ParamDialogState gains an optional interpolate member. ActionParamDialog / ParamDialogState are not exported from packages/app-shell/src/index.ts, so this is not a public-surface change of the published package.
  • templateEvaluatorFor is private on ActionRunner; fillHoles in ActionParamDialog.tsx is a module-local function; no other export moves. The ActionDef.params read is typed Record<string, any> already, so no type widens there. Right.

The binding point. templateEvaluatorFor(action) reads action.params._rowRecord (object, non-array) and returns new ExpressionEvaluator({ ...this.context, record: row }); otherwise the runner's own evaluator. this.context is already withIdentityAlias-ed at construction and on every updateContext, so the spread carries the identity aliases; the runner's evaluator is constructed from context alone (no shared formulas or cache the fresh instance would lack). The runner's this.context / this.evaluator are not mutated. It is evaluated once per execute, after the condition / disabled gates and before the confirm, and the same instance feeds both confirmText and the interpolate closure handed to the param handler, so confirm copy and dialog copy read one scope. Every row surface in the repo stashes the row under params._rowRecord and fires through ActionRunner.execute (ObjectGrid.onActionDef, RelatedRecordActionsBridge.runRowAction, DeclaredActionsBar, containers.tsx dispatchHeaderAction, action-button.tsx withUndoBaseline), and execute is the one place confirmText is evaluated — so the runner is the narrowest shared point; a grid-side fix would have left the related-list door raw. Right.

Row wins over a page record. { ...this.context, record: row } overrides a page-level record only when a row is stashed. The three page-record stashes (DeclaredActionsBar, containers.tsx page header, action-button.tsx update write) stash the same record the page context carries, so nothing changes there. Right.

Param dialog ordering. useConsoleActionRuntime: localizedDescription = actionDescription(...) → interpolate(localizedDescription) → only then [overrideNotice, declaredDescription].join('\n\n'); the notice is concatenated verbatim, never evaluated (pinned by the new overrideNotice test case whose notice text contains a ${record.*} spelling and survives untouched). RecordDetailView: actionDescription(...) then interpolate(...); it has no override notice. ActionParamDialog: fillHoles(pickLocalized(rawParam.helpText, language), state.interpolate) — after the per-locale map is picked, so the hole is filled on the string the user reads; fillHoles only touches strings. interpolate is undefined-guarded on all three paths, so a third-party runner that supplies none prints as authored (CONTROL pins on each). Right.

RelatedRecordActionsBridge — the one behaviour change, weighed. The bridge runs inside RecordDetailView's ActionProvider, whose context binds the PARENT page record; it already retargets the dispatch to the child (objectName: childObject, recordId, params: { _rowRecord: record }), and the api handler resolves the record id from that stash. Before this PR a ${record.*} hole in a related-list row action's confirmText read the parent; now it reads the child row. That is the card's rule verbatim ("the record the action runs against is record"): the action runs against the child, and a confirm naming the parent while deleting the child was the mis-binding, not a feature. Search for a realistic reliant author: no ${record.*} inside any confirmText / description / helpText anywhere in examples/, apps/, content/docs, package READMEs, demos or .changeset/ (the only ${record.*} uses in-repo are predicates, params.recordId, and properties on record surfaces); the bridge's own docblock promises nothing about record; cloud's consumer guard (cloud#3019) keeps ${record.*} confirms header-only. No reliant author found. Judged right, and the "row wins over a page record" pin names the related-list case explicitly.

Missing-field degradation. The evaluator's template-part path returns String(result ?? '') for a member that reads undefined, so ${record.no_such_field} prints empty on the header (measured in pin (c): Pause ?). A row dispatch now binds record and degrades identically; an UNBOUND root (record absent and no row) faults in SafeExpressionParser and returns the raw match, which is the pre-existing answer and stays (CONTROL: no-row dispatch unchanged). The card's control ("degrades the same way on both doors") is met. Right.

Toasts. The success/error toast reads ${result.*} from the handler result on an unchanged path; pin (d) drives it through a row dispatch. Unchanged. Right.

Bulk path. ObjectGrid's stripCollectedActionKeys removes confirmText / confirm / params / actionParams before the per-record dispatch, so the new binding never reaches it; BulkActionDialog prints its own multi-row confirm (noted by the dev, out of scope, no single record to bind). Right.

Scope note, not a defect. condition, disabled, the url target and redirect still read this.evaluator. The card's acceptance names confirmText and the dialog copy; row-level condition / disabled are already decided per row by the grid's row predicate before dispatch. Held to the ruled scope; no finding.

Tests. The core pin drives the SAME action through a header-shaped runner and a list-shaped runner with the exact ObjectGrid stash; the grid pin goes through the real row menu under a record-less provider; the dialog pin renders the real ActionParamDialog. Each positive has a CONTROL. The paramRuntimeParity-6431 DIALOG_READS update is the right shape (both producers now write interpolate, parity still reads a declared list). Ablation reported on the one load-bearing line, 6 of 8 red, restore proven by blob. Not re-run here.

② Semver level

  • .changeset/12967-row-action-record-hole.md: @object-ui/core: minor, @object-ui/app-shell: patch.
  • Clause-②: yes (widening) is the correct arm: an exported type gained an optional parameter. Per the objectstack AGENTS.md rule, yes takes at least minor — core minor matches, and no major is declared (objectui AGENTS.md: breaking is spelled minor in this fixed group; Changeset Bump Policy check: success).
  • app-shell patch: a bug fix in a released package with no barrel export change (ParamDialogState is internal) — patch is the floor the policy names for a fix and the right level.
  • plugin-grid is touched by a test file only (src/__tests__/…), which publishes nothing; the presence gate asks for one declaration and Changeset Declaration / Changeset Fixed Group Check / Changeset Claim Re-read / Changeset Overwrite Report are all success on this head.
  • The PR body and the claim both read Clause-②: yes; the changeset body states the widening and that a handler ignoring the argument reads as before. Consistent.

③ Boundary flags

  • open_questions: none declared. Nothing to answer.
  • Deviation 1 (Clause-② measured yes against the claim's original no): answered — the claim was amended in place (6251848893, "amended in place from no on the dev's measurement"), the changeset carries minor, and this review is the one owed.
  • Deviation 2 (three existing app-shell test files edited beyond the named surface): answered — two gained handler cases for the new argument and one parity list gained the new state key; no production file outside the claimed surface moved (useConsoleActionRuntime.tsx and RecordDetailView.tsx are the param dialog's two state producers, within "the param dialog that prints those strings").
  • Deviation 3 (no declaration-time refusal): answered on the merits — the card's refusal is conditional ("if a hole cannot be filled on some door"), and both doors now fill, so the condition is not met. The report cites "ruling 1" for this; no comment on the card is numbered as such, so the citation does not resolve, but the omission stands on the card's own wording. Not escalated.
  • Out-of-scope finding (BulkActionDialog prints def.confirmText raw for a multi-row selection): correctly left unfiled as an observation — there is no single record for the rule to bind.
  • Gate verdicts on the head at review time: success — Lint, Build & E2E, Test (dist pins), Changeset Bump Policy, Changeset Declaration, Changeset Claim Re-read, Changeset Overwrite Report, Changeset Fixed Group Check, Governed Surface Queue Guard, Line Citation Gate, Live E2E (informational), label. Skipped — dependabot, Test (coverage), coverage shards. STILL IN PROGRESS — Type Check, Repo Gates, Build Docs, Bundle Analysis, and Test shards 1 through 16 of 16. Not awaited; the verdict below is on the diff and the completed gates, and the adopting seat should read the remaining conclusions before the queue.
