The home page header gets the NorthGuild shield, redrawn to suit this site's quiet night look, and the page now comes in like aurora mist instead of appearing all at once.

Changes

  • Header mark. NorthGuildMark.astro redraws the GMT docs shield (the peaks and </>) as faint ice. It uses the wordmark's ice tone at low opacity, has no cyan and no glow, and draws only the shield's edge, the mountain ridge and the </> as lines. It sits 24px from the wordmark, the same as the GMT header.
  • Wordmark. Plain text now, not a link: this is the root page. The 404 page keeps its own link home.
  • Entrance. The header, title, line under it and cards come into focus one after another. A soft band of light drifts across each, the blur clears, and a green-cyan tint settles into the usual ice. Nothing slides. It ends at about 2.6s, as the sky's own fade-in finishes. It is two shared classes in Base.astro, .ng-enter-text and .ng-enter-pane, staggered with --ng-delay. Reduced motion gets a short fade only.
  • More sky to hover. The title and the line under it are only as wide as their text, and the card grid lets the pointer through its gaps. Before, both stretched the full width and blocked star hover.

Notes

  • The animation uses longhand properties because the build's minifier turned the animation: shorthand into animation: none.
  • Once the entrance ends, the filter and mask come off, so the cards' glass is unchanged afterwards.

Checked

  • pnpm lint && pnpm format:check && pnpm check && pnpm build all pass.
  • Captured frames of the entrance in headless Chrome at 0.3s, 0.7s, 1.2s, 1.8s and 2.6s, and checked the header mark at desktop and phone widths.
  • Tried locally in Safari and Firefox: both look right.

The header carries the NorthGuild shield, redrawn from the GMT docs mark as
faint ice: pale washes and hairlines in the wordmark's tone, no fills or glow.
The wordmark is plain text now, not a link to the page it is on.

The header, title, line under it and cards come in like aurora mist: a soft
band of light drifts across each, the blur clears and a green-cyan tint
settles into the usual ice. Reduced motion gets a short fade.

The title and line under it are only as wide as their text, and the card grid
lets the pointer through its gaps, so more of the sky answers hover.

I read the diff alongside the theme's .gmt-glass, Aurora's isBareSky hit test and the 404 page. I have one point, inline. The rest holds up:

  • The mask maths works. At mask-position: 100% the box shows only the clear end of --ng-sweep, and at 0% only the solid end, for any block less than about 1.4 times as tall as it is wide. That covers every block here, at phone width too. So nothing jumps when the animation ends and the mask comes off.
  • The glow fades out cleanly. .gmt-glass sets no box-shadow, so the pane keyframes ease back to nothing on the header and to RepoCard's own 0 0 0 0 transparent on the cards.
  • The gaps reach the sky. With pointer-events: none on .grid, a pointer over a gap lands on main, which isBareSky counts as sky.
  • The timing is fair. On paper the last card finishes at 3.55 s, but with that easing curve it is about 95% of the way there by 2.6 s, so "about 2.6s" in the description is a fair summary.

Header is rendered by Base on every page, so the 404 blurred its header in
after its own text had already shown. Base now takes an `entrance` prop and
passes it to Header; only the home page sets it.

Approved at 606adbb. The 404 point is fixed, and the rest was sound at the first read. The ci check was still running when I approved, so keep an eye on it before merging.
