Builds on #498, which adds the isPackageInstalled helper this uses. Until #498 merges this PR also shows its commit; the change here is only the second commit.

Problem

Uninstalling a package that is not installed returns the package manager's raw code, which says nothing about the cause:

$ mobilecli apps uninstall com.mobilenext.notinstalled --device Pixel_9_Pro
{"status": "error", "error": "failed to uninstall app on device Pixel_9_Pro: failed to uninstall app: exit status 1\nOutput: Failure [DELETE_FAILED_INTERNAL_ERROR]\n"}

Fix

When adb uninstall fails, AndroidDevice.UninstallApp checks pm path <package>. If the package is not installed it returns <package> not installed, the same message apps terminate gives after #498. Any other failure is reported as before. The successful path makes no extra adb call.

Testing

  • e2e, written first and failing before the fix: should report that a package which is not installed cannot be uninstalled failed with Received string: "failed to uninstall app on device Pixel_9_Pro: failed to uninstall app: exit status 1 …"; it passes with the fix.
  • Full Android emulator suite: 59 passed, including the real uninstall and reinstall of Playground.
  • go test ./devices/ passes.

Found while QA-testing mobile-mcp (BUG-35).

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Android app termination and uninstallation now clearly report when the requested app is not installed.
    • Uninstall errors no longer expose a low-level system error message when the app is missing; other uninstall errors continue to be reported.
    • Terminating an installed app that is already stopped continues to work without an error.

am force-stop exits 0 for any package name, so terminating an app that is
not installed reported success. Check pm path first and fail with
'<package> not installed', the message the iOS device and simulator give.
Terminating an installed app that is not running still succeeds.
…g it

The package manager answers 'adb uninstall' of a package that is not
installed with Failure [DELETE_FAILED_INTERNAL_ERROR], which says nothing
about the cause. When the uninstall fails, check pm path and report
'<package> not installed' instead, the message terminate gives.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

Android app termination and failed uninstall handling now check whether a package is installed. Missing packages return a package-specific error. Unit and integration tests cover package detection and command error handling.

Changes

Android app commands

Layer / File(s) Summary
Package installation detection
devices/android.go, devices/android_apps_test.go
The pm path check treats output beginning with package: as installed and exit code 1 with empty output as not installed. Other command failures return errors. Unit tests cover single and split APK paths, missing packages, and command failures.
Termination and uninstall handling
devices/android.go, test/android.spec.ts
TerminateApp checks installation before force-stopping. After an unsuccessful uninstall, UninstallApp checks whether the package is absent. Integration tests cover missing-package errors and repeated termination of an installed, non-running app.

The change makes uninstalling or terminating a missing Android package report a clear "not installed" error, and it keeps other adb failures visible. No actionable merge-blocking risk remains.
