> geeky lead geekI am a Colombian-American programmer who has spent most of his career building for media and publishing. Most recently, I've led projects at Code and Theory, working with clients like RealClearPolitics and The Minnesota Star Tribune. Previously, I've built products at Condé Nast (Vanity Fair, The New Yorker), Betaworks, Pager, and SeatGeek.
I'm interested in how technology shapes the way stories are told, distributed, and experienced. Reading, gardening, and cooking when not at a screen. Duolingo and Nintendo when at a screen but still trying to relax or have some creative / playful fun.
In 2026, I'm taking the first half of the year as a sabbatical. I'm using the time to seriously study the impact of AI on the industry; not just reading and talking about it, but experimenting hands-on with tools and approaches on solo projects. I've been revisiting my open-source work, sharpening my TypeScript fundamentals, and brushing up on my ES6+. Working through The Art of Computer Programming at a leisurely pace has been a particular pleasure.
Code may be cheap to generate now, but Big O is not. Efficient algorithms matter more than ever, and so does the discipline to gate the costly and pernicious ones, and something I've been thinking through as an IC, as a manager, and as the occasional entrepreneur.
Beyond the technical, the break has given me space to give up smoking, slow down, and generally be less stressed. I'm also relocating from upstate New York to Florida soon.
