Replaces dawidd6/action-send-mail with hyperpolymath/smtp-notify-action v0.2.0 (tag commit ede1191ef6ff3ac02c4f4d9efdf837ee517e11d7), per the 2026-09-02 ruling (standards spec §5.5/§9, PR hyperpolymath/standards#725). The whole file is replaced with the rsr-template-repo canonical, which — besides the uses: line — restricts the trigger to branch pushes (tag and deletion payloads mislabel Branch:/head_commit), sets timeout-minutes: 5, carries a deliberately per-run concurrency group, and grants only contents: read. How many of those are actual changes here depends on how far this repo's copy had drifted — read the diff, not this list. Dormant gating on vars.PUSH_EMAIL_ENABLED == 'true' is unchanged. Line 1 SPDX header kept as it was.

Engine: .git-private-farm/scripts/smtp-notify-sweep.sh. Verification for this repo: regime=lock pristine=valid post=valid changed=.github/workflows/actions.lock,.github/workflows/push-email-notify.yml, sig=G a4e09dc canon=543fc1474b54 base=main
(pristine/post = gh actions-lock --no-fix validity before/after; repair = the lock was already invalid before this change and is valid after it.)

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Improvements
    • Push email notifications now apply to branch pushes only; tag pushes and deletion events are excluded.
    • Notifications are processed independently for each workflow run, preventing one run from cancelling another.
    • A five-minute time limit helps prevent stalled notification jobs.
    • Email delivery now uses an updated notification service for improved workflow reliability.

Walkthrough

The push-email workflow now targets branch pushes only, isolates each run, limits job execution to five minutes, and sends notifications through hyperpolymath/smtp-notify-action@v0.2.0.

Changes

Push email notifications

Layer / File(s) Summary
Event scope and run isolation
.github/workflows/push-email-notify.yml
The workflow filters the push trigger to branches. Each run uses its own concurrency group without cancellation.
Notification action and execution limit
.github/workflows/push-email-notify.yml
The workflow documents and uses hyperpolymath/smtp-notify-action@v0.2.0. The job has a five-minute timeout and records the action pin authority.

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to a4e09

Branch deletions can still generate emails without valid commit details. The workflow condition should exclude deleted events and null commits before merge.

Poem

A rabbit checks the branch bell ring,
Each run keeps its email wing.
Five minutes tick, then hops away,
SMTP carries news today.
No tag or deletion joins the play.

43-43: 🩺 Stability & Availability

Verify the SMTP provider before merging.

The action supports implicit TLS only; STARTTLS is not implemented, and authentication uses AUTH PLAIN. Confirm that the secret-backed SMTP endpoint supports this contract.

43-43: 🔒 Security & Privacy

No change is required.

The annotated v0.2.0 tag dereferences to commit ede1191ef6ff3ac02c4f4d9efdf837ee517e11d7, which matches .github/workflows/actions.lock.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Exclude branch-deletion events before sending mail.

branches: ['**'] restricts the ref to branches, but it does not exclude branch-deletion push events. GitHub includes branch deletions in push events, and those payloads can contain head_commit: null. (docs.github.com)

The job can therefore send a notification without a commit message. Add !github.event.deleted && github.event.head_commit != null to the job condition on Line 38.

Suggested fix
-    if: ${{ vars.PUSH_EMAIL_ENABLED == 'true' }}
+    if: ${{ vars.PUSH_EMAIL_ENABLED == 'true' && !github.event.deleted && github.event.head_commit != null }}
