Adds a Signed commits section to this repo's CONTRIBUTING, per owner ruling D218. The estate policy is docs/SIGNING-POLICY.adoc in hyperpolymath/standards.

This repo's default branch is covered by the zero-bypass Require-Signed-Commits ruleset, and rebase-merge is off. The section tells contributors what that requires:

  • People and interactive agents sign with an SSH signing key.
  • Apps, bots and workflows write through the API, so GitHub signs their commits.
  • PRs are merged with squash.

If the file already had its own signing section, that section is replaced in place instead of adding a second one. Lines elsewhere that told people to sign with GPG are changed to match the policy (SSH for people).

This is a docs-only change. The commit was created through createCommitOnBranch, so GitHub signs it.

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Updated contribution guidance to require signed commits on the default branch, using a GitHub-registered SSH signing key and verified committer email for people and interactive agents.
    • Added guidance for apps, bots and workflows to use GitHub’s API or the approved signed-push action instead of pushing local commits.
    • Clarified that pull requests must be squash-merged: unsigned commits on a pull request branch block merging, and rebase-merge is unavailable.

Walkthrough

CONTRIBUTING.md now explains signed-commit requirements, signing methods for different contributors, and pull request merge rules.

Close the commit-message code fence before the signed-commit section.

The fence opened at line 115 remains open. GitHub Flavoured Markdown renders the signed-commit heading, list, and policy link as code.

- Merge PRs with **squash**. The ruleset checks every commit on the PR branch,
not just the result, so one unsigned commit blocks the merge. Re-create such a
branch with signed commits (`git cherry-pick -S`) and open a new PR.
Rebase-merge replays commits unsigned and is disabled.

Correct the rebase-merge guidance.

The repository allows merge, squash, and rebase methods. The guide must not state that rebase merge is disabled. Keep squash merge as the project preference:

Suggested fix
- Rebase-merge replays commits unsigned and is disabled.
+ Rebase merge is available, but squash merge is the project preference.

‼️ IMPORTANT
Carefully review the code before committing. Ensure that it accurately replaces the highlighted code, contains no missing lines, and has no issues with indentation. Thoroughly test & benchmark the code to ensure it meets the requirements.
