mdformat's cmark renderer re-escapes every backslash in paragraph text, so
single-backslash LaTeX was doubled before reaching GitHub, where KaTeX failed
and the formulae fell back to raw text ("_' allowed only in math mode").
Rewrite the cache spec's formulae using only KaTeX-safe, mdformat-stable
constructs (single-letter variables, Unicode ceil/operators, | for
concatenation) and verify the file is idempotent under the pre-commit
mdformat hook.
