I-D xml document conversion messes up line breaks

We need to find a way to enforce a line break from the markdown source. With the current version that includes diagrams and bullet lists, the formatting is very much messed up.

Diagrams and most lists are now fixed via #340. Some formatting could still be improved, but that's for a more general review/editing of the document.
