fix #30

Fixed an issue where the End-of-line block attributes for headings and the End-of-line block attributes applied to ol were not being applied correctly.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Attributes on wrappers are preserved when they wrap a single matching table, blockquote, or list; native attributes such as ordered-list numbering remain intact.
    • Attributes on ::pre wrappers are applied to rendered code blocks without displaying the wrapper.
    • Trailing inline attributes can now apply to text and nested elements even when separated by whitespace.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Improved attribute handling for wrapped content, ordered lists, and inline spans.

Hi @farnabaz san,

I'm just gently bumping this PR. No rush, but I hope that this change will be helpful for the project and its dependents.
If you have some time, I’d appreciate it if you could take a look.

🟠 html.replace expands $& inside wrapper attrs · syntax/inline-props.ts:91

Correctness · syntax/inline-props.ts:91 · in Inline Props Syntax

The renderer hook passes rendered attrs as a replacement string. For a valid <pre> attr containing $&, String.replace substitutes the matched <pre> text into the attr and corrupts the HTML.

Fix: Use a replacement callback in the fence and code_block renderer hooks to append self.renderAttrs(...) literally.

🟠 previous.content.trim() applies tail props to the parent · syntax/inline-props.ts:196-197

Correctness · syntax/inline-props.ts:196-197 · in Inline Props Syntax

applyTrailingPropsToParent takes the previous.content.trim() branch for tail in **bold** tail{.x} and puts .x on the paragraph; previously, wrapRenderInline applied it to a span around tail.

Fix: Restrict parent attrs in applyTrailingPropsToParent to the parent-only text case; let wrapRenderInline handle meaningful trailing text after inline tokens.

🟠 applyTrailingPropsToParent sends punctuation props to the paragraph · syntax/inline-props.ts:194

Correctness · syntax/inline-props.ts:194 · in Inline Props Syntax

applyTrailingPropsToParent applies attrs to parentOpen when the final text is !, so **bold**!{.x} puts .x on <p> instead of a span around !.

Fix: In applyTrailingPropsToParent, send nonblank text to the parent only when the inline content is plain text; let mixed inline content reach wrapRenderInline.

📝 Walkthrough

The parser folds supported block wrappers around matching elements and applies trailing inline properties to eligible parent elements. Markdown inputs and expected HTML cover wrapper folding, code-block attributes, list handling, and inline attribute spacing.

Changes: Markdown Attribute Parsing

Layer / File(s) Summary
Block wrapper folding
src/syntax/inline-props.ts, test/input/14.list-handling.md, test/output/14.list-handling.html, test/input/18.wrapper-blocks.md, test/output/18.wrapper-blocks.html
The parser folds supported wrappers around a matching child and merges their attributes. Wrapped code-block attributes are added to the rendered <pre>. Fixtures cover lists, tables, blockquotes, code blocks, and a multi-child wrapper that is not folded.
Trailing inline properties
src/syntax/inline-props.ts, test/input/6.inline-props.md, test/output/6.inline-props.html, test/input/8.inline-span.md, test/output/8.inline-span.html
Trailing properties apply to eligible parent elements when text precedes the properties token. The parser removes trailing spaces and the properties token after non-whitespace text, or removes both tokens when the text contains only whitespace. Fixtures cover headings and spans with varied spacing.

A custom highlighter combined with a classed code-block wrapper can produce duplicate class attributes, making code-block styling unreliable in that case. The nested-list start behavior is preserved; overall merge risk is low.

Explanation

Issue #30 requires matching block wrappers to apply attributes to the wrapped block without creating a nested block. The change folds matching ul, ol, table, and blockquote elements and applies pre wrapper attributes to the rendered pre element. It preserves native ordered-list attributes such as start. Wrapper fixtures cover the required block types and edge cases.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The pull request also changes general trailing inline-prop handling for headings, paragraphs, list items, and spans. Fixtures test/input/6.inline-props.md and test/input/8.inline-span.md cover these behaviors. Issue #30 requires block-wrapper behavior for complex blocks and does not require these inline-prop changes.

Resolution

Isolate the heading, paragraph, list-item, and span inline-prop behavior in a separate pull request with a directly linked issue, or remove those unrelated changes and their dedicated fixtures from this pull request.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Merge attributes already present on the rendered <pre>.

If a fence highlighter returns <pre class="hljs">, this replacement produces two class attributes when the wrapper has a class. The wrapper class and highlighter class will not both apply reliably. Merge the classes into one attribute instead of inserting a second attribute. Markdown-it explicitly permits a highlighter to return its own <pre> element. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Fold nested wrappers from the inside out.

If an outer ::ol contains an inner ::ol around a list starting at 3, this forward pass merges the inner wrapper before the inner wrapper receives the list’s start="3". The rendered outer list loses the start value. Visit wrappers in reverse order so each inner wrapper has its final attributes before its parent merges them. Markdown-it puts the ordered-list start value on the list’s opening token. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
