Set up CI/CD pipeline with GitHub Actions (build + test on push) #3

Description

Create a .github/workflows/ci.yml workflow that runs on every push and pull request to main.
The pipeline must build the project and execute all tests across multiple compiler configurations to detect portability issues early.

Workflow Jobs

Job 1: Build & Test Matrix

Strategy Matrix:

• Compiler:
  • gcc-13
  • clang-17
• Build type:
  • Debug
  • Release

Steps (per matrix entry):

• Checkout repository
• Install build dependencies:
  • cmake
  • ninja-build
  • compiler toolchain
• Configure with CMake:

  -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=${{ matrix.build_type }}
  -DCPUSCOPE_BUILD_TESTS=ON
  -DCPUSCOPE_WERROR=ON
  
  

Build using Ninja (parallel)

• Run tests:

  ctest --output-on-failure

• Release-only step:

  • Run a smoke test:

    ./cpuscope_cli --version

Job 2: Lint (Placeholder)

• Placeholder step:

  echo "Lint checks will be added later"

Job 3: Sanitizer Build (Clang, Release Only)

• Build configuration:

  • Enable:

    • AddressSanitizer (ASan)
    • UndefinedBehaviorSanitizer (UBSan)

• Run all tests under sanitizers

• Fail the job if any sanitizer issues are detected

Acceptance Criteria

• Push to any branch triggers the CI pipeline

• All jobs show a green checkmark for a passing commit

• A deliberately failing test causes CI to fail

• Build artifacts are cached to speed up subsequent runs:

  • e.g. ccache or CMake cache

• Repository history includes at least 3 commits demonstrating CI evolution
