Why

PostANSPayload.arcAdditionalProperties.video.transcoding is typed as the literal true, so every video imported through the SDK asks Video Center to re-encode it, and Arc charges extra for that encoding. Video Center also accepts false, which imports the stream as-is. A progressive MP4 is then copied to Arc's CDN as a single rendition, and Arc does not charge for importing progressive MP4 or HLS MPEG-2 (Video Center migration docs).

Verified on the Media24 sandbox (2026-10-13): 5 Brightcove MP4s posted with transcoding: false were published, each as one MP4 rendition whose size matched the source byte for byte.

Change

  • transcoding?: boolean, with the default false and a doc comment saying that true is charged extra.
  • postAns fills in transcoding: false for a video ANS when the caller leaves it unset. An explicit true or false is kept as given, and non-video payloads are not touched.
  • useLastUpdated, importPriority and thumbnailTimeInSeconds are now optional and no longer literals. thumbnailTimeInSeconds must be left out when an inline promo_items.basic image is sent.
  • Minor changeset: callers that relied on transcoding: true must now pass it explicitly.
  • Tests for the default, an explicit true, and an untouched story payload.

Build, biome and tests (111) pass.

Video Center imports a stream as-is when transcoding is false, and Arc does
not charge for importing progressive MP4 or HLS MPEG-2. The type pinned the
field to the literal true. It also made useLastUpdated, importPriority and
thumbnailTimeInSeconds required literals, although thumbnailTimeInSeconds
must be omitted when an inline promo image is sent.
postAns sends transcoding: false for a video when the caller does not set it.
Video Center encoding is opt-in with transcoding: true, and Arc charges extra
for it. Without it, the stream is imported as-is, and Arc does not charge for
importing progressive MP4.
