Clinician-Engineer · Founder · Clinical AI, Informatics, Interoperability & Public Policy
I'm a residency-trained informatics pharmacist who designs, builds and ships clinical AI products. I was a Staff Clinical Informatics Data Architect at Verily and a Clinical Informatics Pharmacist at Mayo Clinic, where I modernized clinical systems across 80 hospitals and clinics. As a graduate intern at the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT, I contributed to the electronic prescribing sections of the 21st Century Cures Act Final Rule. Since 2023 I've also run OpenClinTech, which trains clinician-engineers.
In March 2025 I took family medical leave from Verily to care for my grandmother, and in June 2025 I resigned to care for her full time. That year shaped everything I'm building now.
I launched Unscripted Rx in August 2025, hoping it could earn enough to let me keep caring for her. In November 2025 I founded haau3, an app for caregivers, because I needed one myself.
My grandmother passed away in January 2026. Instead of going back to a full-time job, I went all in on haau3 as a free app that helps other caregivers, and in June 2026 I launched the haau3 platform to fund it. For the rest of 2026 I'm betting on myself, building haau3 toward sustainability.
- haau3: a free, FHIR-native, AI-powered companion that brings a loved one's health records together so caregivers can focus on the human side of care. Generally available and listed in the CMS Medicare App Library.
- haau3 platform: the APIs behind haau3, offered to other organizations to fund it, including a scheduling slot aggregator built on HL7 SMART Scheduling Links and a FHIR terminology service.
- Unscripted Rx: pharmacy residency and workforce discovery with 30,000+ connected entities.
- OpenClinTech: courses and a live bootcamp that train clinician-engineers in HL7 FHIR, clinical informatics and AI in healthcare.
- Ovant: a job search tool that learns your career once, then writes a resume for each role from what you have actually done.
- HL7 SMART Scheduling Links: as a member of the work group, I created and maintain the specification's FHIR implementation guide, written in FHIR Shorthand. The scheduling model itself is the work group's.
- @briankfung/fhir-types: hand-rolled HL7 FHIR R4 TypeScript types, including US Core Patient.
- public-fhir-server: a small FHIR R4 server on Postgres, live for testing.
- go-fhir-server: a small reference FHIR server in Go, built for learning.
- haau3 FHIR IG and patient scheduling IG: implementation guides written in FHIR Shorthand.
- Phantom Codes: a benchmark of hallucination, accuracy and cost across 24 LLM and prompting configurations for medical concept normalization. Paper and code are open.
