The closed Libraries menu and hidden workbench editor currently add optional code to their initial bundles. This continues Sarah Gerrard's deferred-loading implementation on current main, loading the menu on pointer entry or keyboard focus and CodeMirror when its panel first becomes visible. An activated editor stays mounted while its panel is hidden.

AI review notes:
The integration preserves the current library taxonomy and navigation guards. Obsolete builder-draft changes are removed, and current main's analytics implementation is unchanged, including its single page-view source and traffic-quality tagging.

Two production builds with identical settings compared the current-main Navbar and ExampleWorkbench modules against this candidate. Summed gzip bytes of each entry's static JavaScript import graph were:

Graph Current main Candidate
Shared startup 370,403 350,901
Workbench 652,948 438,803

The graphs overlap, so these savings must not be added together. This measures deferred JavaScript, not LCP or total download reduction. First use can show a loading placeholder.

Independent verification passed full pnpm test and production builds. The actual local site passed keyboard menu activation, library navigation and mobile overlay/back checks. A browser fixture using the real lazy editor verified no editor request while initially hidden, loading on activation, editing, Control+Enter and retained edits after hide/reopen. Full authenticated workbench persistence and WebContainer execution were not exercised. No new analytics behavior is included.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Added a responsive Libraries mega-menu with categorized libraries, icons, theme-aware styling, and a “Browse all libraries” option.
    • Library links now distinguish between internal navigation and secure external destinations.
    • Added deferred loading for example code editors, with loading and error states when needed.
  • Performance

    • Improved initial page loading by loading library menus and code editors on demand.

📝 Walkthrough

The libraries menu now loads from a separate component after activation. The workbench now loads CodeMirror after each editor container enters the viewport.

Changes: UI lazy loading

Layer / File(s) Summary
Lazy libraries menu
src/components/LibrariesMenuContent.tsx, src/components/Navbar.tsx
The libraries menu loads after pointer entry or focus. Loading and error fallbacks handle the lazy component. The menu renders categorized internal and external library links.
Lazy CodeMirror editor
src/components/examples/LazyCodeMirrorEditor.client.tsx, src/components/examples/ExampleWorkbench.client.tsx
Both editor panels use LazyCodeMirrorEditor. The editor loads after its container enters the viewport and preserves activation after first visibility.

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 7460c

The libraries menu now loads lazily, and a failed load shows a local error message instead of crashing the navbar or page. No merge-blocking risk remains.

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Contain CodeMirror load failures inside the editor panel.

React.Suspense handles loading but does not catch a rejected React.lazy import. When a reachable editor activates and ./CodeMirrorEditor.client fails to load, the error can reach the root route boundary and replace the project or shared-example page with route error UI. Wrap LazyEditor with the existing BlankErrorBoundary.

Handle a failed load of the LibrariesMenuContent chunk.

React.Suspense handles the pending import only. If LazyLibrariesMenuContent rejects, the error escapes MegaMenuContent because no local error boundary protects it. The error can then reach outer route handling and replace more than the optional menu.

Wrap the lazy menu in a local boundary. Preserve the existing openLibraries() fallback action instead of navigating to an unverified /libraries route.

Good catch, a rejected optional chunk could escape Suspense and replace the surrounding page. Both the Libraries menu and editor now use the installed router's CatchBoundary with a visible reload message. This keeps the page available without silently leaving a blank editor.

AI review notes: In a local browser fixture, I made both optional imports return HTTP 404. Both showed their local error message and a surrounding counter still worked. The fixture used the actual editor component and the extracted Libraries rendering branch, not the full authenticated workbench. The full pnpm test suite and normal commit hooks passed. The earlier loading, editing and menu interaction checks are recorded in the PR description.
