fix(angular-db): align version support and query reactivity - #2327
The declared Angular 16 minimum did not match the adapter's implementation. Its effect writes signals without the allowSignalWrites option required by older Angular versions, so applications satisfying the advertised peer range could still fail. Angular's older signal-write restriction.
Raise the minimum to Angular 20, the oldest version still in Angular's LTS window as of November 1, 2026. Update the peer dependency and requirement documentation together. Angular support schedule.
Also fix a reactive consistency gap: after a parameter changed, collection() could describe the new query while data and status still described the previous one. Derive result signals from the current observer snapshot, and let the effect own subscription setup and cleanup. This also removes the redundant DestroyRef teardown.
The companion observer-caching change in #2328 preserves data-array and Map references across metadata-only updates. This adapter projects the observer's row-state identity before making its defensive Map copy. Together, these changes keep row-signal values stable when only status or health changes, helping identity-based consumers skip unnecessary downstream recomputation. Both PRs can merge independently; the metadata-only savings become available when both land.
Correct the documentation to explain that signal reads inside query callbacks are reactive.
Law: synchronous result reads describe the current query, including before the subscription effect runs.
Reach: 36 fixed and 36 random histories cover callback, params, config, and precreated inputs; list/findOne; pooling; enable/disable; and source writes around attachment.
RED: from packages/angular-db, ../../node_modules/.bin/vitest --run tests/snapshot-conformance-oracle.test.ts fails on the previous adapter: empty data is exposed beside a populated Collection.
GREEN: the same oracle passes; the complete Angular suite passes 97 tests with one existing TODO.
Mutant: omitting post-subscribe invalidation fails after a source write between an early read and attachment.
Limits: finite synchronous fixtures in Angular JIT TestBed; no new SSR, browser-rendering, asynchronous-provider, or cross-framework scheduling guarantee.
The affected package tests and supporting checks listed below pass locally.
Affected package tests, typecheck, ESLint, oracle lint, formatting, and the production build pass on Node 24.8.0. The full workspace pnpm test suite was not run locally.
🚀 Release Impact
This change affects published code, and I have generated a changeset.
This change is docs/CI/dev-only (no release).
Major changeset for @tanstack/angular-db: raising the Angular minimum is breaking.
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Angular query functions and collection configuration now react to signals read during setup.
After query parameters change, results and status reflect the current query before effects run; rows from the previous query are not shown. Disabled queries expose empty results, and unsettled queries can show a loading state.
Observer subscriptions are cleaned up when replaced.
Documentation
Updated Angular guides and examples to describe signal tracking and current-query snapshots.
Clarified that Angular 20 or later is required for @tanstack/angular-db.
Expose current-query snapshots before subscription effects run, keep connection
ownership in the effect, and project row state before making its defensive Map
copy. Document signal tracking and add an independent generated receiving oracle.
Law: Angular signals describe the current query at the synchronous pre-effect cut
(shared conformance contract, maintainer decision 2026-11-01).
Reach: 36 fixed and 36 random histories cover callback, params, config, precreated,
findOne, pooling, enable/disable, and source writes around effect attachment.
RED: the oracle on 95dbf66 exposes empty data beside a populated Collection;
seed 1101, path 0:0:0:0.
GREEN: 97 Angular tests pass (one existing TODO), with typecheck, ESLint, oracle
lint, production build, and release-script tests on Node 24.8.0.
Mutant: omitting post-subscribe invalidation fails the source-write/setup-gap cut.
Limits: finite synchronous equality fixtures in Angular JIT; no new SSR,
asynchronous-provider, or cross-framework scheduling guarantee.
BREAKING CHANGE: the Angular package requires Angular 20 or later, recorded by
the companion major Changeset and the earlier minimum-version commit.
No actionable comments were generated in the recent review.
Walkthrough
The Angular adapter now derives live-query results from observer snapshots and manages subscriptions through an effect. The pull request adds snapshot conformance and performance tests, changes the Angular minimum version to 20, and updates related documentation. It also adds direct-start histories to the normal GC retention oracle campaign.
Changes: Angular live-query snapshot behavior
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Snapshot reads and observer lifecycle packages/angular-db/src/index.ts, packages/angular-db/tests/conformance.test.ts
injectLiveQuery derives returned state from an observer snapshot. An effect subscribes to the observer and unsubscribes and disposes it during cleanup.
The conformance oracle checks current-query snapshots across query inputs and effect timing. Diagnostic tests measure snapshot reads, computation counts, and reference reuse. Oracle records document coverage, results, limits, and replay mapping.

The normal campaign adds a generated startup-only direct-insertion history before the existing mixed histories. Explicit path replays skip the generated-property assertions. Replay registration and documentation describe the separate property and reach evidence.

Explanation
The title "fix(angular-db): align version support and query reactivity" matches the main changes in the changeset. The PR raises the minimum Angular version from 16 to 20 in the peer dependency and docs, and it makes result signals derive from the current observer snapshot with the effect owning subscription setup and cleanup. The title is specific and concise, and it names the package, so it does not need remediation.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the repository template. It covers the Changes section with motivation and the Angular 20 minimum, the reactive consistency fix, and the companion PR #2328. The Oracle Coverage section names the owner test file, states the law, reach, RED/GREEN results, mutant check, and limits. The Checklist and Release Impact sections are filled in, and the major changeset is noted. Two gaps remain: the bug-fix guidance asks for evidence that closes the entire declared bug class, and the description says the full workspace pnpm test suite was not run. Both are disclosed, so they do not make the description largely incomplete.
