Time Analyst is a Windows desktop application designed to automate the review of employee working hours, attendance records and overtime data.
It connects to a workforce-management platform through read-only API access, processes attendance information using defined business rules, highlights records that require human review and generates professional Excel and PDF reports.
This repository is a portfolio showcase of the project.
The production source code, credentials, internal data and executable builds are intentionally not published.
Time Analyst was created to reduce the manual effort required to review employee attendance information.
Instead of checking individual records manually, the application can:
- retrieve current attendance data;
- analyse selected employees and date ranges;
- compare planned working hours against actual worked time;
- identify incomplete or inconsistent clock-ins;
- compare actual overtime against requested overtime;
- separate administrative validation states from time calculations;
- generate structured reports for review.
The application does not make automatic HR decisions.
Its purpose is to highlight relevant information so that a human reviewer can quickly identify situations that may require attention.
Users can analyse:
- individual employees;
- multiple selected employees;
- the complete workforce;
- custom date ranges;
- predefined periods.
The application can identify:
- working-time deficits;
- incomplete clock-in or clock-out pairs;
- non-calculable days;
- pending administrative validations;
- authorised absences;
- records requiring manual review.
Time Analyst compares:
- actual overtime worked;
- overtime requested;
- administrative request status;
- differences between worked and requested time.
Working more overtime than requested is treated as informational data rather than automatically being considered an incident.
The application generates:
- Excel reports;
- PDF executive reports;
- employee-level summaries;
- daily detail;
- overtime summaries;
- administrative request status summaries;
- review queues.

The application supports selective data retrieval.
For small employee selections, only the required records are requested and processed instead of downloading the complete workforce dataset.
Attendance requests can also be processed concurrently to reduce analysis time.
Security and privacy were considered part of the application design.
The application is designed to use read operations only against the external workforce-management API.
It does not modify employee information, attendance records, requests, schedules or company configuration.
Production credentials are not stored inside the executable.
On Windows, credentials are protected using the Windows Data Protection API (DPAPI) and bound to the local Windows user context.
The reporting layer avoids exposing unnecessary internal identifiers and sensitive information.
Time Analyst can be packaged as a portable Windows application.
The target computer does not require:
- Python;
- a development environment;
- package installation.
The application can be launched directly from its executable.
Technologies used in the project include:
- Python
- Tkinter / ttk
- REST APIs
- Requests
- Concurrent network requests
- Windows DPAPI
- OpenPyXL
- XlsxWriter
- ReportLab
- pypdf
- PyInstaller
The project was developed incrementally, validating the main areas independently:
- API discovery and data retrieval
- Attendance analysis rules
- Overtime comparison logic
- Anomaly detection
- Selective employee analysis
- Desktop interface
- Excel reporting
- PDF reporting
- Portable packaging
- Credential protection
- Validation on a clean Windows computer
The portable build was also validated on a Windows computer without Python installed.
This public repository does not contain:
- production API keys;
- authentication tokens;
- company identifiers;
- employee identifiers;
- employee names;
- production reports;
- production datasets;
- configuration files containing secrets;
- executable production builds;
- the complete production source code.
Published examples and screenshots use anonymised or synthetic information.
Current validated version:
Time Analyst V0.28
Main areas validated:
- desktop application;
- attendance analysis;
- overtime analysis;
- selective data retrieval;
- Excel export;
- PDF export;
- portable Windows build;
