Quoteable Quotes

A macOS quote screen saver (QuoteableQuotes.saver) with a standalone preview app, built with Swift Package Manager. The repository is QuotableQuotes; the Swift package and the preview app are named ScreenSaver.

What's New in v1.0.1

• Added a bundled Kevin Samuels quote library with 200 paraphrased thematic entries.
• Fixed .saver quote loading for the Kevin Samuels theme, including saved theme aliases and the prior kevin-samauels misspelling.
• Added a persisted Use Proposed Font? setting for XML <font> suggestions.
• Replaced the proposed-font checkbox-style control with a real switch, left-justified label, and grey proposed-font name.
• Shows the active proposed font beside the switch, such as Avenir Next Condensed for the Kevin Samuels pack.
• Improved font resolution so XML font suggestions can match both exact font names and installed font families.

Prerequisites

• macOS
• Xcode command line tools (swift available in shell)

Build (Release)

From repository root:

swift build -c release

Run Standalone App (Release)

Windowed:

swift run -c release ScreenSaver

Fullscreen:

swift run -c release ScreenSaver --fullscreen

In fullscreen mode, mouse or keyboard input exits the app (screensaver-style behavior).

Build .saver Bundle (Release)

The current user-facing download page is the GitHub latest release:

To build the .saver bundle locally:

scripts/build-saver.sh

Output:

dist/QuoteableQuotes.saver

Install to System Settings:

scripts/install-saver.sh

Then open System Settings -> Screen Saver and select Quoteable Quotes.

Use ScreenSaver -> Options... in standalone app, or Options... in Screen Saver settings.

• Font family picker (with live font-face preview in dropdown)
• Use Proposed Font? switch with the active XML <font> suggestion shown beside it

• Quote theme picker (bundled XML libraries)

Quote Source

Fallback order:

1. Custom XML file selected in options
2. Bundled themed XML selected in options
3. Hardcoded fallback quotes

Supported XML shape:

• quotes.xml (mixed sample, 100 total)
• generic-quotes.xml (generic sample, 33 total)
• leadership-quotes.xml (100 total)
• kevin-samuels-quotes.xml (200 total, paraphrased thematic entries)
• stoicism-quotes.xml (100 total, now includes Arthur Schopenhauer)
• comedic-quotes.xml (100 total)
• greek-philosophers-quotes.xml (100 total)
• french-revolutionaries-quotes.xml (100 total)

Runtime behavior:

• Quotes are randomized.
• No repeats until the full selected set is shown.
• Dynamic timing scales from the configured base time.
• XML <font> values are used only when Use Proposed Font? is enabled.
