7.16.2

Version 7.16.2 — 2026-09-27

  • Fix: on Python 3.14 and later, a for loop completing immediately before a function return could mistakenly report an uncovered branch. This is now fixed, closing issue 2168.
  • Fix: on Python 3.14 and later, the else clause of a try whose body is a with statement could incorrectly be reported as covered when the with raised. This is now fixed, closing issue 2289.
  • Fix: with dynamic_context = test_function, test methods written as @staticmethod or @classmethod were not given a context of their own. Now they are, on Python 3.11 and later. Closes issue 1923.

🤖 Claude Code Review

PR Review: Bump coverage 7.16.1 → 7.16.2

This PR changes only pyproject.toml. It bumps the coverage pin for Python > 3.11 from 7.16.1 to 7.16.2, in both the development and test dependency groups. I didn't open the repo files, so this review rests on the diff alone.

Code Quality

  • ✅ Style: The change keeps the existing pinned-version format and environment markers.
  • ✅ Commented-out code: None.
  • ✅ Variable names: Not applicable.
  • ✅ DRY: The coverage pin appears in two groups (development and test), but both were updated together and now match. The duplication was already there. A shared group could remove it later, but that's out of scope.
  • ✅ Defects: None found. The Python ≤ 3.11 pin (7.10.7) is untouched and still consistent in both groups. A patch bump is low risk.
  • ✅ .claude/CLAUDE.md: Not modified. Nothing in it is specific to a local environment.

Testing

  • ✅ Unit and integration tests: Not applicable, since there are no code changes. CI should confirm the test suite still passes with the new version.
  • ✅ Edge cases: Not applicable.
  • ⚠️ Coverage > 80%: This diff doesn't change coverage, but I haven't verified the current figure. Check the CI coverage report.

Documentation

Security

  • ✅ Hardcoded credentials: None.
  • ✅ Input validation and error handling: Not applicable.
  • ✅ Sensitive data in logs: None.
  • ✅ License files: No .lic files and no strings starting with AQAAAD in the diff.

Summary

This is a routine, low-risk dependency bump. It's safe to merge once CI is green.
