7.16.2

Version 7.16.2 — 2026-09-27

  • Fix: on Python 3.14 and later, a for loop completing immediately before a function return could mistakenly report an uncovered branch. This is now fixed, closing issue 2168.
  • Fix: on Python 3.14 and later, the else clause of a try whose body is a with statement could incorrectly be reported as covered when the with raised. This is now fixed, closing issue 2289.
  • Fix: with dynamic_context = test_function, test methods written as @staticmethod or @classmethod were not given a context of their own. Now they are, on Python 3.11 and later. Closes issue 1923.

🤖 Claude Code Review

PR Review: bump coverage 7.16.1 → 7.16.2

The diff changes pyproject.toml only. It updates the coverage pin for Python > 3.11 in two places, the development extra and the test extra. The python_version <= '3.11' pin (7.10.7) is unchanged.

Code Quality

  • ✅ Style: The change is consistent with the surrounding pins. Both occurrences were updated, so the extras stay in sync.
  • ✅ No commented-out code.
  • ✅ Variable names: Not applicable.
  • ✅ DRY: The same pin appears in two extras. That duplication was already there and is out of scope for this PR.
  • ✅ Defects: None found. This is a patch-level bump of a dev/test-only dependency, so it has no runtime impact on the snippets.
  • ✅ .claude/CLAUDE.md: Not modified. The existing file has no local-environment-specific content.

Testing

  • ✅ Unit and integration tests: No new code, so none are needed. CI should run python -m pytest to confirm that pytest-cov 7.1.0 still works with coverage 7.16.2.
  • ✅ Edge cases: Not applicable.
  • ✅ Coverage threshold: Not affected by this change.

Documentation

  • ✅ README and API docs: No update needed.
  • ❌ CHANGELOG.md: Not updated. This is acceptable for a Dependabot dev-dependency bump, but check whether the project convention expects an entry.
  • ✅ Markdown: No Markdown files changed.

Security

  • ✅ No hardcoded credentials.
  • ✅ Input validation and error handling: Not applicable.
  • ✅ No sensitive data in logs.
  • ✅ No license files: No .lic files and no AQAAAD strings in the diff.

Notes

  • Untracked files are present in the working tree: build-resources/, pr_diff.txt, prompt-header.md, prompt-temp.md and review.txt. They are not part of this diff. Make sure none of them get committed.

Verdict: Approve, assuming CI passes.
