Implements the Wave 2 spherical spline (bs='sos') subwave against vendored mgcv 1.9-4.
Includes all seven upstream kernel orders, exact low-rank construction and prediction state, formula/spec/runtime wiring, select/by/id/pc support, tensor and factor-smooth integrations, persistence and diagnostics coverage, static R fixtures, and user documentation. Explicit guards document surfaces that cannot be represented equivalently.
