Adds examples/auto_resume.py. It pauses a sandbox, reads a file back with exec without calling resume(), and reports whether the sandbox woke by itself (RESULT: woke automatically / resumed explicitly / failed).

  • Written like the other examples (docker.py, preview_ports.py): a short docstring, NeevAI() from the environment, SDK default timeouts, and NEEV_SANDBOX_TEMPLATE_ID as the only override.
  • The fallback is narrow. It calls resume() and replays the read-only command once, and only after a 429 while the sandbox is still Paused. A 503 or any other error is not retried. The docstring notes this relies on how the backend sends 429s today, not an API guarantee.
  • Every wait has a time limit, the marker file must come back unchanged, and the sandbox is always deleted at the end.
  • Adds entries to examples/README.md and docs/example-coverage.md. No SDK code changes.

Tested:

  • ruff check and format pass.
  • pytest: 684 passed, 2 skipped. tests/test_ssh.py::test_async_tunnel_close_stops_listener hangs on my Windows machine; this PR changes nothing in src/ or tests/.
  • A real run on dev woke the paused sandbox in 5.1 s, with the marker file intact, and the sandbox was deleted afterwards.

Not tested: production, the explicit-resume path against a real environment, and agents.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added examples showing how paused sandboxes and agents behave when used without calling resume() first. They report whether the resource wakes automatically and retry a read after a 429 response if it remains paused.
  • Documentation
    • Added both auto-resume examples to the examples catalog and API-to-examples index, and updated the documented uses of NEEV_AGENT_TEMPLATE.

Walkthrough

Adds sandbox and agent examples that read from paused resources without first calling resume(). If a read returns a 429 and the resource remains paused, each example resumes it, waits for readiness, and retries once. The documentation indexes now list the examples.

Changes: Paused Resource Examples

Layer / File(s) Summary
Demonstrate paused-sandbox read and fallback
examples/auto_resume.py, examples/README.md, docs/example-coverage.md
The script creates and pauses a sandbox, then reads a marker without first resuming it. Only a 429 while the sandbox remains paused triggers a resume and one retry. The script reports the outcome and attempts cleanup. The indexes list the example.
Demonstrate paused-agent read and fallback
examples/agent_auto_resume.py, examples/README.md, docs/example-coverage.md
The script creates and pauses an agent, then reads a marker from its sandbox without first resuming it. Only a 429 while the agent remains paused triggers a resume and one retry. The script reports the outcome and attempts cleanup. The indexes describe the example and document its template setting.

The examples are mergeable with a small follow-up: a failed agent can cause unnecessary polling before failure is reported. No SDK behavior changes or material merge-blocking defects are established.

Fail fast in wait_for when the agent status is Failed.

wait_for returns only when done(agent) is true or the 120-second deadline passes. If the agent becomes Failed while the example waits for Paused, the loop keeps polling until the deadline. A Failed check inside the loop stops the wait at once.

The JS PR documents paused-sandbox behaviour in api-inventory.md: runtime calls on a Paused handle are sent, a 429 means call resume(), and phase stays Paused until refresh(). Python behaves the same but this PR doesn't document it. Could we add the same paragraph?

Cleanup failure only prints, so the run still exits 0 and a leaked sandbox goes unnoticed in CI. The JS port sets a non-zero exit here. Can we match?

Fixed in 93212ef: a failed delete now exits with status 1.

Same as auto_resume.py: exit non-zero when agent.delete() fails.

The JS port bounds this read at 120s (AbortSignal.timeout) so a stalled body can't hang the example. If exec takes a timeout here, worth passing the same.

Fixed in 93212ef: the read passes timeout_ms=120000, so the server stops the command at 120s and the client waits at most 150s.

Both auto-resume examples pass timeout_ms=120000 to the marker read, matching the JS port: the server stops the command at 120s and the client waits up to 150s (120s plus the SDK's grace). Both also exit non-zero when deleting the sandbox or agent fails.

Please squash the commits

auto_resume.py pauses a sandbox, then runs a command against it without
calling resume(), and reports whether the sandbox woke by itself.
agent_auto_resume.py does the same for an agent, through its backing
sandbox, and calls agent.resume() in the fallback.

Both fall back to an explicit resume() only on a 429 while still Paused,
and replay the read-only command at most once. Every 429 on the exec path
is sent before the command runs; that is how the backend behaves today,
not an API guarantee. A 503 or any other error is not replayed. The
marker read passes timeout_ms=120000, matching the JS port, and both
examples exit non-zero when deleting the sandbox or agent fails.

examples/README.md gains a step-by-step section with each example's run
command and expected output, and its table and notes now match the code.
minimal_agent's banner shows the configured model, and repo_analyzer
defaults to the repository's current URL. Both auto-resume examples are
listed in examples/README.md and docs/example-coverage.md.

Conflicts with #58 resolved to this branch, which matches the current
aiagent API (working_directory, device, OCSF actor captions). Keeps the
auto-resume examples from #60, and updates the step-by-step README's
expected output for the two audit examples to what they now print.
