examples(camera_viz): package under isaaccapture_examples - #1369
Part of #985. Supersedes the camera_viz commits of #1040 (noitom and oglo_tactile move in #1367); original commits by @jiwenc-nv.
camera_viz moves to the layout in examples/README.md: pyproject.toml at the example root (dist isaaccapture-examples-camera-viz), sources under python/isaaccapture_examples/camera_viz/ (a PEP 420 namespace with no __init__.py at that level), hatchling only-include + sources, and relative sibling imports. camera_viz.sh keeps its commands: setup now also installs the example into its venv (editable), and run, loopback and the systemd unit start it with python -m.
Direct invocations change. The old ones no longer work:
A .venv made before this change lacks the example, so rerun ./camera_viz.sh setup once (run and loopback now say so), and ./camera_viz.sh deploy on robots, which now re-renders the systemd unit and restarts the service. Outside setup, install the viewer with uv pip install -e './examples/camera_viz[viewer]'; the sender needs no extra.
The first two commits are @jiwenc-nv's from #1040, cherry-picked onto current main. The first conflicted with the guide consolidation (#1267); I kept main's text, reapplied only paths and commands, and noted that in its message. A third commit fixes references the move left stale, some added on main since #1040 and the rest missed by the original commit, and closes the gaps a standalone install exposes:
The camera streaming guide's remaining commands, a sentence that setup installs the example, and a troubleshooting entry for No module named 'isaaccapture_examples'.
The root AGENTS.md logging exception, which names the streamer's file.
pyproject.toml: a viewer extra declares isaaccapture[cloudxr] and Pillow, which the viewer imports and the sender must run without; the wheel excludes the codec's in-place build tree and .so.
The sender-only setup hint, the native-codec error hints and the docstrings that named the old paths or module names.
test_synthetic_failures.py imports through the package; test_cuda_setup.py loads scripts/check_cuda.py by path, because setup runs it with the system python3 before the venv exists.
A fourth commit replaces the pyproject.toml restatement of the packaging rules with a pointer to examples/README.md, as the converted examples on main do. A fifth commit makes deploy restart the service instead of enable --now, which left a running streamer on the old unit.
Merging main brought in #1371's cuda_env.py beside the old entry points. It moves into the package with the rest, the entry points import it relatively, and scripts/check_cuda.py imports it through python/, because setup runs that script with the system python3 before the sample is installed. The guide's layout tree lists it.
#1078 and #833 add files under the old paths and need them moved when they rebase.
Type of change
Bug fix (non-breaking change which fixes an issue)
New feature (non-breaking change which adds functionality)
Breaking change (fix or feature that would cause existing functionality to change)
Documentation update
Breaks direct invocations, existing .venvs and deployed units (migration above); the camera_viz.sh subcommands and the isaaccapture library are unchanged.
Testing
x86_64 / Ubuntu 24.04, Python 3.12, RTX 6000 Ada, against a local isaaccapture 1.7 build.
SKIP=check-copyright-year pre-commit run --all-files passes.
make -C docs current-docs (sphinx-build -W) passes, and every camera_viz code link on the rendered guide resolves.
uv build --wheel examples/camera_viz: every file sits under isaaccapture_examples/camera_viz/, the wheel has no isaaccapture_examples/__init__.py, and a codec build tree and .so placed in the source tree stay out of it.
In a fresh venv with the local isaaccapture wheel, uv pip install -e './examples/camera_viz[viewer]'; then python -m isaaccapture_examples.camera_viz --help and python -m isaaccapture_examples.camera_viz.camera_streamer --help work, run from /.
Package the camera viewer and streamer together so sibling imports, launchers, and the service resolve the installed example.

[Ivan Yang: rebased onto main past #1267. camera_streaming.rst keeps main's
text with paths and run commands moved to the package layout; README.md
keeps main's version; the docs/AGENTS.md rule is dropped because
check-doc-refs already rejects stale :code-file: targets.]

Point the paths and run commands that landed on main after the move, or
that the move missed, at the packaged layout, and close the gaps that a
standalone install of the package exposes:
- camera_streaming.rst: viewer flags and the manual streamer start use
`python -m isaaccapture_examples.camera_viz[.camera_streamer]`; setup is
documented to install the sample itself after resolving isaaccapture,
and troubleshooting covers `No module named 'isaaccapture_examples'`.
- Root AGENTS.md: the no-isaaccapture logging exception names the moved
streamer module.
- pyproject.toml: a `viewer` extra declares isaaccapture[cloudxr] and
Pillow, which the viewer imports and the sender must run without; the
wheel excludes the codec's in-place build tree and .so.
- camera_viz.sh: run and loopback stop with "rerun setup" when the venv
predates the package.
- _install_deps.sh: the sender-only closing note gives the module command,
the pillow comment names controls/hud.py, and the install step says why
it passes --no-deps.
- Native-codec error hints, the encoder-factory, viewer and controls
docstrings, and the pipeline package's AttributeError use the new paths
and module names.
- test_synthetic_failures.py imports through the package; test_cuda_setup.py
loads scripts/check_cuda.py by path, since setup runs that script with the
system python3 before the venv or the package exists.

Walkthrough
The camera visualization example is now packaged under the isaaccapture_examples.camera_viz namespace. Its Hatchling configuration, internal imports, setup scripts, local commands, and systemd service use the package layout and module-based launch commands. Tests and camera-streaming documentation reflect the updated imports and paths. Camera runtime logic remains unchanged.
NVIDIA/IsaacCapture#1366: Packages a separate example under the same namespace using Hatchling and module-based launch commands.
NVIDIA/IsaacCapture#1357: Updates camera_viz setup and dependencies, which this change relocates into the packaged setup flow.
NVIDIA/IsaacCapture#1371: Updates camera_viz entry points and setup behavior alongside the module-launch changes.
Merge Risk: Low · previous review acd52
Setup and module-based launches look consistent. After this change, redeploying the camera streamer service to a device where it is already running will not restart it. The old process keeps running until it is restarted manually, so add a restart step to the deploy flow. Display, headset and Jetson testing are still pending per the author.

Explanation
The title "examples(camera_viz): package under isaaccapture_examples" matches the main change. The PR moves camera_viz sources under python/isaaccapture_examples/camera_viz/, adds a pyproject.toml at the example root, and switches launch commands to module paths. The title names the primary change and uses a concise, conventional scope-prefix form. It does not list every detail, which is expected.

If the old service is active, enable --now leaves its existing process running. Redeployment then reports success while the old streamer and its arguments remain in use. Restart the service after installing and reloading the new unit. (freedesktop.org)

`systemctl --user enable --now` leaves an already-running service on the
previous unit, so a redeploy that changes ExecStart (as the package move
does) kept the old streamer running. Enable the unit, then restart it.

the package, the entry points import it relatively, scripts/check_cuda.py
imports it through python/ (setup runs that script with the system
python3 before the sample is installed), and test_cuda_setup.py imports
it through the package.
