📖 Marginalia

A writing-first, public reading portfolio platform built for modern students, academics, and literary thinkers.

Deploy with Vercel License: MIT

Marginalia reimagines how we track what we read. Instead of treating books like retail products with sterile 4-star ratings and gamified reading targets, Marginalia focuses entirely on the intellectual value of reading: writing.

It acts as a public repository and personal dashboard where you write long-form literary essays, capture marginal notes, build your public profile, and maintain genuine, deep writing streaks.

✨ Core Features

  • ✍️ Writing-First Dashboard: No cluttered UI. Focused environments designed entirely around cells, rich-text editing, and structured logs.
  • 📝 Long-Form Literary Essays: Shift your reviews away from quick stars and into deeply articulated essays, critiques, and arguments on what you read.
  • 📊 Intellectual Portfolio: Build a beautifully structured, public-facing reading and writing portfolio to showcase your comprehension, synthesis skills, and critical thinking to peers or employers.
  • 🔥 Consistency & Writing Analytics: Track your intellectual habits through deep-work metrics, writing time, word counts, and consistency streaks rather than superficial "books read" counters.
  • 📚 Frictionless Book Cataloging: Effortlessly add, curate, and reference your digital library while keeping the primary focus on your commentary.

🛠️ Tech Stack

Marginalia is built on high-performance frameworks engineered for quick rendering, deep database persistence, and minimalist design styles:

  • Frontend Framework: Next.js (React Framework for production)
  • Deployment & Hosting: Vercel
  • Styling & UI: Tailwind CSS (Custom clean, minimalist cells design)
  • Database & Auth: Supabase / Firebase (Adjust depending on your actual stack)
  • Rich Text Editor: Markdown / Slate / TipTap (Adjust depending on your choice)
