The text entry object captures user input and stores it in memory. You can use this object to simulate text input fields. For example, you might use the text entry object to provide a way that the player of your game can enter his/her name or any other information.

The object itself is invisible on screen: it only listens to the keyboard. To show the captured text to the player, you need to display it with another object such as a [Text object](/gdevelop5/objects/text). Pressing <kbd>Backspace</kbd> removes the last typed character. It only works with a physical keyboard, which is why the [Text Input](/gdevelop5/objects/text_input) object should be preferred, especially for mobile games.
