SlashData's series had 1.3 million people using Ruby in Q4 2019 and 4.9 million by the 30th edition in late 2025. The post lays out the years in between, what the count actually includes, the 2024-2025 jump they put down to AI tools, and the independent clocks (Stack Overflow, Rails World, job postings, live sites). Includes a 1200x630 Open Graph card in the August notebook style and the HTML template it was rendered from.
Hacker Trends counts Ruby in 45 million Hacker News items from 2007 to 2026: 150,378 mentions, peak February 2013. Rails is a smaller query (28,509, peak January 2013). The same index has Rust's peak in November 2025. SlashData's headcount rose after 2019; HN conversation volume for Ruby peaked thirteen years earlier. Those are different clocks.
