[Bug]: Clicking the left panel to switch between projects/chats is slow and lags severely

Reproduction steps

1. Open Command Code Desktop with several projects that each have a long chat history.
2. Click an item in the left panel to switch to another project (or another chat inside the same

project).
3. Repeat the switch a few times, both to a project you just used and to one you have not opened for a
while.

Expected behavior

Switching project/chat from the left panel should feel immediate: the selection should highlight on
click and the chat should render within a fraction of a second, without the UI freezing.

Actual behavior

Clicking in the left panel lags severely. The click is registered with a visible delay, the panel and

the transcript freeze for 1-3 seconds on almost every switch, unresponsive while the switch is in progress.
