Gunnar's answers on the Arne sample rate (BigGun, Apollo chat, 2026-11-04, relayed by WDrijver), tagged (G).

Changes

  • core/saga-registers/arne-channels.md (generated; the converter tools/intake/sagaregs.py is changed):
    • a new section, "Sample rate":
      • Arne runs in a 60 kHz max mode, about period 59 (that number is our calculation);
      • there is no minimum sample rate;
      • the HDMI audio output resamples down for compatibility with all monitors;
      • for games, use 44.1 kHz (period 80).
    • new rules: use 44.1 kHz for game audio; keep the period at 65 or higher, as the original says.
  • core/saga-registers/index.md: the Arne rate open question is removed. Only IRQ $48/$50 is still open.
  • core/saga-audio-arne/registers.md (TuKo1982):
    • Gunnar's 60 kHz replaces the guide's "about 66 kHz"; the file says the core developer's figure is leading;
    • adds the 44.1 kHz advice, the HDMI note, and Gunnar's confirmation that periods use Paula's clock;
    • basis gains core-developer.

Gunnar (BigGun), 2026-11-04: Arne runs in a 60 kHz max mode; there is no
minimum sample rate; the HDMI audio output resamples down for all
monitors; for games use 44.1 kHz. Add this to arne-channels.md and drop
the open question. In core/saga-audio-arne/registers.md the core
developer's 60 kHz replaces the guide's "about 66 kHz".
