Adding a new method

This page provides an overview of the process the Methods Team uses when adding or changing Methods on the site.

Content creation process

• Receive submissions via Google form
• Evaluate submission against criteria
  • If submission meets criteria, move to next step
  • If submission does not meet criteria, follow-up with submitter to explain decision not to move forward with suggested addition
• Facilitate working session(s) to draft content with submitters
• 18F methods team members refine content (consult the content editing checklist)
• Present method to someone unfamiliar with it to validate its usability and refine accordingly
• Publish method to 18F Methods site

Implementation on Github

• Create a new file in https://github.com/18F/methods/tree/staging/_methods
• Add the content according the template format; consult the content editing checklist
• Add the title of the new method to the list under the appropriate heading in https://github.com/18F/methods/blob/staging/_data/categories.yml.
