Binary data in build log

As reported by Simon Richter in Debian Bug #1143046:

some of the tests (e.g. "examples_convert_xml_pbf") dump the generated binary data to the console. That might be annoying if ASCII 7 BEL is generated, and could also confuse terminal emulators.
