Shift+Click to select

At the moment, shift+click doesn't do anything for me on my computer, even though I'd expect it to select everything between the current cursor location and the place where I clicked.

It should be possible to implement a plugin providing this feature.

Although you might not be able to bind it to shift+click, if your terminal intercepts it, so you might need to bind it to something else, e.g. alt-click.

It works fine on edit, so it should be possible (at least on Konsole). (Which does remind me, is there a reason ctrl+shift doesn't work at all in micro, even for sequences that don't have keybindings?)

Yes—most text editors allow it for me, and so do file managers like Yazi. After a bit of searching, I'm guessing the difference is micro doesn't support KKP yet?

No it doesn't. Micro is using tcell library, there are or were plans to add KKP support to it: gdamore/tcell#671 but it hasn't been done yet.

Given that my terminal and coding environment is termux on Android and that the terminal in conjunction with the apps such as keyboards that would simulate shift plus click simply don't from my investigation support that key sequence, I can't code micro to use it. But thanks to @dmaluka s comment :

I probably gave the plugin approach more consideration that I otherwise would've. That was after I basically coded this in go first and after I found #2990

I can post a semi hacked out plugin code if wanted which might consider whether there's any selected text in the editor and if/not compares to the start or end of that too select additional text from the cursor after the onMouseClick fires. I find the lua code from issue 2990 to be the most practical for selecting text in my environment but I'll go back and fetch my plugin code and post here it just suffers right now from not being able to grab the cursor and selected text at the same time right now

I recently rebased to latest tcell on my micro fork, now i can see the shift+leftclick in >raw so i also added the required changes to make this happen. Hey @Tubbles I tried your fork and it seems to work .. with keys other than Shift. 😅

Using the example "Shift-MouseLeft": "MouseSelectTo", seems to do nothing.

But using, ex, "Alt-MouseLeft": "MouseSelectTo", works (when using Alt+Click of course).

@commonsourcecs Huh, interesting! Can you open an issue ticket in my repo? Please add information on your system, anything that could be relevant, such as OS, terminal, whether your using micro through ssh and/or a terminal multiplexer and so on 😸 also a heads up for anyone trying the integration branch: it is being force pushed a lot, so make sure to git fetch and git reset --hard to get latest version.

Would this be something you might assist with an upstream PR after #4174 is merged (or maybe even as PR into #4174 🤔)?
