Stack allocate small arrays

There are some opportunities to stack-allocate small arrays in this project to reduce heap allocations. This should only be done if benchmarks can demonstrate an improvement.

AFAIK I think this is done automatically now for NET 10 - have a look at Steven Taub's post on the NET 10 release
