Training Grounds Difficulty Filter no longer working

Hi!

The Training Grounds Difficulty Filter no longer appears to be working. You can click on the various difficulty levels in the Filter modal but the search results don't match.

It used to be working fine up until today 😄

Hey Phil, thanks for reporting it. It looks like Boot.dev has been changing quite a bit in the Training Grounds lately, and this is another change to the search/filter flow.

I'm going to give it a few more days to see if anything else changes before updating Catalyst's additional difficulty filtering again. The new Training Grounds UI removed the Search button from the filter modal, so changing filters now requires going back to the search box and pressing Enter again. Catalyst was also using that search submission to commit its additional difficulty level selection, which is why the level pills currently aren't affecting the results normally.

The underlying Catalyst filtering still works in the meantime. After doing a native search, you can manually add a dl= query parameter to the URL and Catalyst will apply it.

For example, if you search for Medium Python code challenges about "loops", the native URL will look like:

https://www.boot.dev/training-grounds/search?q=loops&t=type_code&l=py&d=medium

To restrict that to only difficulty 7, add &dl=7. For levels 5 and 6, use &dl=5,6.

The levels need to correspond to the selected native difficulty: Easy is 1–4, Medium is 5–7, and Hard is 8–10. When the additional filter is active, you'll see Catalyst's gold dot on the filter button, and the selection should remain active for additional searches as long as the corresponding native difficulty remains selected.
