[GPL Request] Release Complete Kernel Source Code for Redmi A5 / POCO C71 (serenity) #41076

Description

@ErrorLinux

Description

Dear Xiaomi Kernel Open Source Team,

According to the GNU General Public License version 2 (GPLv2), it is strictly mandatory to release the complete and buildable kernel source code, including device tree files and compilation scripts, when distributing devices running a modified Linux kernel.

The Redmi A5 and POCO C71 (codename: serenity) have been available in the market for a long time, yet the official repository still lacks the corresponding kernel source code for these devices. This directly hinders the developer community from building custom recoveries (like TWRP), custom ROMs, and addressing device longevity or security improvements.

We have observed that other newer devices or models with similar platform specifications have already received their source code branches here. There is no legitimate technical or legal reason why the serenity tree is left behind.

Device Details

  • Device Names: Redmi A5 / POCO C71
  • Codename: serenity
  • SoC Platform: Unisoc
  • License: GPLv2 Compliance

Legal Notice & Next Steps

As an enthusiastic community and consumers of Xiaomi products, we respectfully request:

  1. The immediate publication of the complete, updated, and buildable kernel source code for serenity in this repository.
  2. Or an official statement providing a strict timeline for this release.

Please be advised that if the kernel sources are not published within a reasonable timeframe, the development community will have no choice but to escalate this matter and report this ongoing GPLv2 violation directly to the Software Freedom Conservancy (SFC) Violation Team for formal legal review. All public requests and unanswered threads will be served as evidence of a conscious license violation.

Thank you for supporting the open-source community and respecting the GPLv2 license. We look forward to your prompt response and action.

Best regards,
Xiaomi Device Community / Android Developers
