From 08f2e9bfb0803120bdf0557ec2399df0567c33da Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Markus Neusinger <2921697+MarkusNeusinger@users.noreply.github.com> Date: Wed, 14 Oct 2026 13:25:03 +0200 Subject: [PATCH 1/4] fix(agents): judge context without fixed refusals; pasted data sets the language MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Issue 1, false refusal right after a refusal (live test 2026-10-14): the scope judge got the halt event's fixed refusal as ``, so after "Wie wird das Wetter morgen in Wien?" was refused `needs_data`, "Welcher Tag im April war der wärmste, und kannst du ihn im Plot markieren?" was refused `needs_data` too. `judge_context` now skips every fixed reply (`policy.fixed_replies`, all refusals in all languages, plus the outage line) and passes the last reply a model wrote, or none; the withheld placeholder among the user turns still marks the refused turn. The rubric says a question about the user's own data is in scope and `needs_data` is only for data the service would have to fetch. Eight new scope eval cases (`data_question`, three `after_refusal`). Issue 2, language from the pasted data (owner request): a paste before any typed message or choice sets the session language (new source `pasted`) from the notes judge's `lang`, else the dataset judge's `lang` for the part holding the column names; no extra model call. `en` is no signal. Detection still replaces `pasted`; a paste never replaces `detected` or `chosen` (the route re-reads the session after the judges). The dataset route returns `language: {language, source}`; the page syncs its chip (`lang: de · from data`) and shows one notice. That covers choosing or changing the plot, which columns go into which role, the user's dataset as the plot needs it, colors, sizes, labels, titles, ordering, scales and other styling, questions about how the plot's code works, and how to run or export the code. Greetings, thanks and short confirmations in an ongoing plot conversation are in scope too. - `out_of_scope`: anything else, asked in good faith, that is not a request for data (that is `needs_data`): general programming help, code that has nothing to do with this plot, other software, writing or translating text, general knowledge other than the figures `needs_data` covers, opinions, advice, statistics or homework beyond what the plot shows. -- `needs_data`: the message wants figures or records that are not in the user's pasted table and would have to be fetched, looked up or recalled: stock prices, exchange rates, the weather, inflation, population or other statistics, sports or election results, the contents of a URL or a file, or a public or named dataset ("use the iris dataset", "download the data from this link"). It starts as `en` with the source `default`, whatever the browser's locale, so a message such as "sin x" gets an English plot. A language is a short name or code that matches `^[A-Za-z][A-Za-z -]{0,39}$` (`agents/anyplot/language.py`); a known English name or endonym is stored as its code (`Deutsch` and `German` as `de`), anything else as typed (`Swedish`). -The session's first in-scope typed message sets it to the language the scope judge names for that message (`lang`, which the judge returns for every free-text turn), with the source `detected`. An `en` verdict counts only for a message of at least three words, because the judge also answers `en` for a message without a clear language: `sin x` keeps the default, and the next typed message is judged again. A later typed message never changes a recorded value; a refused message and the actions `create_plot` and `summarize_data`, which skip the judge, never set it; and the keys outlive a library switch. The chip in the chat header (`lang: en`, `lang: de · detected`, `lang: de · chosen`) lists the ten common languages, the site's ten most used visitor languages in Plausible in that order (`en`, `zh`, `de`, `vi`, `es`, `fr`, `nl`, `pt`, `ru`, `it`), and a free-text field for any other. A choice calls `PUT /v1/sessions/{sid}/language` and sets the source `chosen`, which detection never overrides. A request in the chat ("labels in English", "Beschriftung auf Deutsch") makes the same change through the root's `set_language(language)` tool, which the server validates like `set_bindings` and refuses while a plot run is active. Its result carries no value: it says whether the session language `changed` (`de` against `Deutsch` is no change), for the reply, and whether the plot is `plot_outdated`, that is, whether the library's latest rendered version has its text in another language. Only `plot_outdated` makes the root write the next version in the new language, because the two can differ: a plot made by the `create_plot` action before any typed message stays English after a later German message records `de`. A German user who asks for English labels therefore gets English replies from then on: there is one session language. +Since 2026-10-14 (owner request after a live session whose German notes and data got an English first summary), a paste sets it before any typed message, with the source `pasted` (`language.pasted_language`): the language of the notes kept around the table, as the scope judge names it when it screens them (`lang`), else the language of the column names, as the dataset judge names it for the part of its input that holds them; both judges already return `lang`, so this costs no extra model call. Both answer `en` for text without a clear language, so `en` is no signal and keeps what is there: headers such as `temperature_2m_max` or `x, y` leave the default, and an English paste after a German one leaves `de`. A paste writes only over `default` and an earlier `pasted`, never over `detected` or `chosen` (it reads the session again after the judges, so a choice made meanwhile stands), and the dataset route answers the session language as `language: {language, source}` so the page's chip follows at once; the thread shows one quiet line ("detected from your pasted data") and the chip `lang: de · from data`. The session's first in-scope typed message sets it to the language the scope judge names for that message (`lang`, which the judge returns for every free-text turn), with the source `detected`, also over `pasted`. The chip in the chat header (`lang: en`, `lang: de · from data`, `lang: de · detected`, `lang: de · chosen`) lists the ten common languages, the site's ten most used visitor languages in Plausible in that order (`en`, `zh`, `de`, `vi`, `es`, `fr`, `nl`, `pt`, `ru`, `it`), and a free-text field for any other. Every prompt that carries the value fences it as ``, data, never an instruction, because a chosen language is free text; the value is still the language to write in. The session block names how it was set on a fixed line (`LANGUAGE_SOURCE_LINES`: "chosen by the user (in the chat header, or asked of you)") under a heading that says to write the replies and the plot text in it. ADK sends this dynamic block inside the user's turn, between its instruction markers, so the root prompt says the server wrote it, to follow it and never to call it a block in the user's message; a production session of 2026-10-12 (`20261012T211551Z-bcc5bcf1`, "klingon" in the chip) had the root refuse it as an injection and stay in English, and on 2026-10-13 the page's English `[action]` messages still set the reply language until the prompt said they do not. A language the model cannot write gives English with one sentence that says so, and the adapter notes it in `changes`. The adapter's `AdaptRequest` and the reviewer's `ReviewRequest` carry it as `plot_language`. The adapter writes the title, axis titles, legend entries and annotations in it, while column names and labels from the data keep their spelling; a change whose base version was written in another language carries `language_changed`, and its literal budget of 300 characters grows by 1.5 times the literal text the plan replaces, up to the first adaptation's 2,000, so a translation fits but a long new annotation on top of it does not. The reviewer judges the plot's own text against it under VQ-06, fail-open: a title or an annotation plainly in another language fails, a name or a label from the data never does, and a text whose language it cannot judge is no defect. Code, comments, the `changes` notes and the root's `change_request` stay English. After every run, `done` carries `language: {language, source}`, so the page syncs its chip after a turn in which detection or `set_language` changed it. The fixed refusals keep their hand-written lines, in every chip language and Polish, with the English fallback: a judged refusal uses the message's language, and a refusal sent before the judge (`budget`, `unsupported_content`) uses the session language's code (`language.refusal_lang`: a code as it is, a known name such as `Deutsch` through a small table, anything else English). Versions made before a change keep their text, each version stores the language it was written in, and the feedback bundle carries `session.plot_language` and `plot_language_source`. Fonts for non-Latin scripts are the renderer's concern (a separate change). @@ -215,7 +215,7 @@ Callable only with Cloud Run IAM; the BFF mirrors it under `/debug/agent`. | `GET /v1/status` | `{libraries, model, location, version, provider, waiting, in_flight}`: `waiting` entries in the run queue, runs `in_flight` | | | `POST /v1/sessions` | `{user, spec_id, library, locale, snapshot: CatalogueSnapshot{spec_id, title, description, data_roles[], notes[], code, library_version}}` (at most 64 KB) → `{session_id, eligibility}` | `422 not_eligible` | | `POST /v1/sessions/{sid}/library` | `{library, snapshot}`; keeps dataset and bindings | `422`, `409 run_active` | -| `POST /v1/sessions/{sid}/dataset` | `{text}` → `{preview, profile, bindings, warnings, context_lines, roles, version}`; `context_lines` are the judged notes pasted around the table; `roles` lists the spec's data roles as `{name, kinds, required, variadic, description, non_negative}`; a paste is `version` 1 and drops an earlier paste's undo history | `413 too_long`, `422 unparseable`, `422 formula` (text that asks for a formula, which the root's `generate_data` computes in the chat; never transcribed), `403 data_refused` | +| `POST /v1/sessions/{sid}/dataset` | `{text}` → `{preview, profile, bindings, warnings, context_lines, roles, version, language}`; `context_lines` are the judged notes pasted around the table; `language` is the session language as `{language, source}` after the paste, which sets it (`pasted`) when nothing typed or chosen has (see [Session language](#session-language)); `roles` lists the spec's data roles as `{name, kinds, required, variadic, description, non_negative}`; a paste is `version` 1 and drops an earlier paste's undo history | `413 too_long`, `422 unparseable`, `422 formula` (text that asks for a formula, which the root's `generate_data` computes in the chat; never transcribed), `403 data_refused` | | `PUT /v1/sessions/{sid}/bindings` | `[Binding]`, validated by `bindings.apply` | `409 run_active`, `422 invalid` with the check's `errors` lines | | `PUT /v1/sessions/{sid}/language` | `{language}`, a short name or code that matches `^[A-Za-z][A-Za-z -]{0,39}$` → `{language, source}`: the user's choice from the chip in its stored form (`English` comes back as `en`), source `chosen`, which detection never overrides; the next reply and the next version use it (see [Session language](#session-language)) | `409 run_active`, `422` (the pattern) | | `POST /v1/sessions/{sid}/dataset/confirm` | → `{confirmed, rows, columns}`: step 1 of two, the user confirmed the dataset with its bindings | `409 run_active`, `422 no_dataset` | @@ -320,7 +320,7 @@ The exported code is byte-identical to the run form that rendered: an attributio Plugin order on `App`, where the first non-None result wins and a plugin never raises (on internal failure it returns a blocking response): `ScopeGuard → Budget → ToolSafety → ContextFilter(num_invocations_to_keep=6)`. `GlobalInstructionPlugin` is not needed because the policy lives in the root's constant `static_instruction` and only the root talks to the user. Limits: per request 12 calls or 160k tokens; per user per day 40 pipeline runs or 2M tokens (about 54 warm runs, so the run cap binds first, but about 26 for a user whose every request starts cold); global per day 6M tokens, three users at their daily budget, which pauses the service. The token limits count cost-weighted tokens: each kind weighs its list price relative to an uncached input token (cache read 0.1, cache write 1.25, output 5; `BUDGET_WEIGHTS` in `plugins/ledger.py`), and the judges' tokens count as well. With a warm prompt cache the median run of the spike-X rerun booked about 37k weighted against 70k plain tokens. On a cold cache a reviewed run with two attempts books about 78k, and the costliest one about 115k with a second review (117k with three attempts), which the 160k request limit holds with about 36 % to spare. Before a review the pipeline also keeps 35k (`REVIEW_RESERVE_TOKENS`) for the review and the root's closing reply, so a tight budget skips a review rather than answering a shipped plot with the `budget` refusal; the reserve is the measured need, and the guarantee is structural: once a plot has shipped in the invocation, the root's next call is exempt from the halt once and runs without tools, so it can only be the closing reply (bounded by the root's 4,096-token output cap); any further root call is checked again. Phase-1 daily counters live in memory for one instance lifetime, and the `aiplatform` spend cap is the real backstop; persisting the counters is a phase-2 item. The plugin writes one attribution JSON line per hook (request id, HMAC user, session hash, agent, tool, argument hash, verdicts, usage, `model_version`, latency) and never content. - **ToolSafety.** `before_tool` enforces a per-agent allowlist (the root's seven session tools and its `plot_pipeline` workflow; none for the adapters and the reviewer), Pydantic validation of the arguments (`FUNCTION_TOOL_ARG_VALIDATION` is off by default), no links (`http`, `https`, `ftp`, `file`, `data` or `javascript` with text right after the colon, or `www.`; a caption such as "Data: my tax return" is not one) or paths in string arguments, as link hygiene, and at most one `plot_pipeline` call per invocation. Personal data in a `change_request` (a name, an address, an e-mail address, a phone number, a bare web address such as `jana-novak.de`, which the root writes without its scheme and `www.`) passes: whether plot text is an advertisement or a message to other people is the scope judge's call, by intent. In the pipeline, a change of a previous version may add at most 300 characters of new string literals (bytes literals and f-string parts included; 2,000 for the first adaptation and for a change that switches the session language, and 2,000 for all versions together against the catalogue code; dataset headers and cells are free): the budget bounds how much text the model writes, not what it says. `after_tool` applies a key allowlist and an 8 KB cap (24 KB for code). `on_tool_error` returns `{"status":"error","code":ENUM}` and never exception text. - **Output sanitiser** in the stream translator, deterministic: `message` events only for `author == "anyplot"` final responses (adapter, reviewer and pipeline-branch events map only to `status` and `plot`); strip URLs with a scheme or `www.`, `data:`, `javascript:` and `mailto:` links, HTML, markdown images and fenced code blocks longer than 10 lines; keep `[[spec:id]]` only for registry ids; cap text at 1,200 characters; final text only. Personal data stays: names, postal and e-mail addresses, phone numbers and bare web addresses pass through to the chat, and only a link with a scheme, `www.` or `mailto:` is stripped, as link hygiene. The output guard (`agents/anyplot/output_guard.py`, run by the ScopeGuard before the reply is stored) replaces a root reply longer than 1,200 characters once sanitised with the fixed `out_of_scope` refusal, the same in every language, with no word list. A turn that called `plot_pipeline` is the exception: its reply describes a plot the user already has, so it is stored and sent cut at 1,200 characters (attribution verdict `reply_cut`) instead of a scope refusal after the plot, which would read as a false refusal. The root's "two to five sentences, or a short list" is about 300 to 900 characters across languages, and a list of eight steps fits in about 600, so the cap leaves a third on top. It counts characters, not sentences, because a sentence count needs a segmenter per script and counts every list item. The cap bounds how much one reply can carry; a short off-topic reply that got past the judge is not caught by it. @@ -469,7 +469,7 @@ Hard gates before any non-owner use: the legal-page PR (`LegalPage.tsx` plus a p ## Verification - **Regression harness.** `uv run --extra agents python -m agents.evals.matrix --model claude-haiku-5-5 --cases smoke --renderer remote --render-url ` must reproduce the committed baseline within tolerance on every PR that touches `agents/anyplot/prompts/`, `code/` or `render/` (run through `workflow_dispatch`, not automatically, because it spends money). A full eval run costs about $1 to $3. - **Unit tests on every PR.** The parser (decimal comma with `DD.MM.YYYY`, header canonicalisation, bidi and zero-width names, caps); the bindings heuristic and `bindings.apply`; the edit applier (ambiguity, protected regions by AST, palette prefix); the validator allow and deny corpus for both profiles (dunder walks, `__builtins__`, `string.Formatter`, `.format`, patsy, `pd.eval`, file-read calls); loader substitution and the working and run forms; the canvas normaliser on the 137 legacy matplotlib files; gate fixtures (G10's from the harness's own glyph capture, which a test exercises with DejaVu alone); the stream translator (author filter, dropped function calls, code-block stripping); the plugins with fake clients (judge timeout or garbage gives `guard_unavailable`; the budget halts the root only; tool errors are mapped; one `plot_pipeline` per invocation); the agent registry test; the BFF (401 and 403, the CSRF header, the 404 kill switch and unset key, user-id derivation, the body allowlist, ownership on artifact routes, SSE re-framing); the caller-claims check; a log and span canary; `find_specs` AND semantics; the session language (English by default whatever the locale, detection by the first in-scope typed message only and the three-word rule for an `en` verdict, a choice that detection never overrides, `set_language` and the language route validated alike, `409 run_active`, the `done` field, the fenced value in every request); Vitest for the SSE parser, the page, the result card, the language chip and button gating. - **Run locally.** diff --git a/docs/reference/api.md b/docs/reference/api.md index 91a0ae29ed2..a26dd01e602 100644 --- a/docs/reference/api.md +++ b/docs/reference/api.md @@ -486,7 +486,7 @@ The routes mirror the agents service's `/v1` API. Routes mirror `/v1` plus `GET eligibility`, `POST sessions/{sid}/feedback`, and the triage routes `GET /debug/agent/cases`, `GET /debug/agent/cases/{id}` and `PATCH /debug/agent/cases/{id}`. The translator tolerates the ADK 2.x `node_info` and `output` fields. A user already over the daily budget gets `ready`, `refusal{code:"budget"}` and `done` without waiting in the queue. Because queued time does not count toward the agents service's deadline, the BFF restarts its own turn budget (`AGENT_REQUEST_TIMEOUT_S`) on every queued status, with the queue's 15 s heartbeat on top because the run may start that long before its first event, and on the first event after the wait. Nothing moves a turn past `AGENT_TURN_MAX_S` (1,190 s), which stays below anyplot-api's `--timeout=1200`: a turn still queued when its run could no longer finish inside that cap ends with `error{code:"capacity"}`, and closing the upstream stream takes it out of the queue before it spends a token. -- **Frontend.** A lazy `app/src/pages/AgentChatPage.tsx` at `debug/agent`, laid out as one chat column (since 2026-10-11, "chat first"). The data card (`app/src/sections/agent-chat/DataPanel.tsx`) is the first turn of the thread: a textarea with a 200 KB counter, preview table, binding dropdowns, `.confirm()` at its foot, and the `# changed` block with `.undo()` after the assistant changed the data or computed it from a formula, without `.undo()` when the formula made the session's first data; a formula pasted into the textarea gets the server's `422 formula`, and the card offers `.send()`, which sends the text to the chat as a turn. The assistant's summary of a stored parse is the next turn, and each data change updates the card in place. After `.confirm()` the card collapses into a header pinned under the site's sticky masthead (`✓ data fits · N rows · M columns · version V`), whose `.show()` opens the full card again without leaving step 2; any binding change, undo, data request or new paste drops the confirmation on the server, and the page returns to step 1 with the card open. The header then stays, as `! confirm again · N rows · M columns · version V` with the phrase in bold on a warning-tinted surface, and its `.show()` leads back to the card from anywhere in the thread, for example after a data request sent from below the plot. The thread gets a warning notice that names what dropped the confirmation (`bindings changed`, `the data changed`, `not confirmed on the server`), and the card's step line repeats it next to `.confirm()`; the first binding setup after a paste, where nothing was confirmed yet, gets none. The step line follows the data the card shows: a data request or undo after the loss names the changed data, and a new paste, which nobody has confirmed yet, names no loss. A table read from free text that waits for `.use()` or `.discard()` holds the page in step 1, even when a turn reports the server's confirmation of the stored data. While the header shows, the page's `scroll-padding-top` keeps keyboard focus and scrolled-to content below it. Below the thread sit a progress grid (since 2026-10-12, the owner's variant A: one row per round, `first try`, `repair 1`, ..., the same four steps in the same columns so each step lines up under the round above, and how the round ended on the right, such as `✓ ok`, `✗ review: 3 findings`, `✗ 2 measured`, `✗ code check failed` or, for the shipped round of a `needs_attention` result, `~ 1 finding open` (the round marked `shipped`, which is not always the last: a repair that fails its check leaves the earlier render shipped); the step a round stopped at shows a red ✗ and the steps after it a hollow dot; the facts come from `PlotResult.rounds` and the `outcome` and `findings` that the `repairing` status carries for the round before it; the result card keeps the same grid under `# rounds` and counts `1 repair` instead of `2 attempts`; on a phone the round's label and outcome take a line above its steps), a Stop button (`AbortController` plus the cancel route) and the composer. While a turn without pipeline steps runs (the summary, a question, a data request), the thread shows an in-progress line in the assistant's slot (`summarizing your data …`, `working on your message …`) until the first reply or pipeline step; the progress grid shows only for a plot run, a queue position or pipeline steps, so the two never say the same thing. While anything is in flight, the bindings block says that the bindings and `.confirm()` wait, and a running parse says so under `.parse()`. Once a dataset exists, the composer always shows `.create_plot()`: before the confirmation as the quiet button next to `.send()`, whose click calls nothing and shows a notice under the composer that leads to `.confirm()` (`# confirm the data first · …`, with `.show()`, which scrolls to the button and focuses it; for a table read from text that still waits, it leads to `.use()`). The notice reads the data card at every render, so a table read from text that arrives or is discarded after the click changes its text and the target of its `.show()`. In step 2 it is the filled action: with an empty box it starts the first plot as it is, with text the text goes as the user's turn, so the assistant makes the first plot with that change. Once the library has a plot, the composer refines with `.send()` (a question or a change on the latest version) and keeps a quiet `.start_over()` beside it (since 2026-10-12, `.create_plot()` before: the owner could not tell the two apart), described as "new from the catalogue plot, without your changes": a fresh plot of the same data from the catalogue code. A wide table (since 2026-10-12, `agents/anyplot/data/shape.py`): when the spec wants one required label role and exactly one required numeric role, no numeric series family, and the table holds 2 to 20 numeric columns and no text or boolean column (date columns are kept as keys), the dataset answers carry `suggestion`, the `pivot_longer` into the two role names; the data card shows it as `# wide table` with `.to_long()`, which `POST /v1/sessions/{sid}/dataset/to_long` applies without a model call as the next version with the default bindings for the new columns (undo as usual), and the root's profile tool carries it as `to_long` so the summary names it in one sentence. The chat header carries a language chip next to the library pills (since 2026-10-12): `lang: en`, `lang: de · detected` after the first typed message set it (the thread then shows one `#` line that names the chip), or `lang: de · chosen`. A click opens a popover with the ten common languages and a field for any other language in Latin letters; a choice calls the language route, and a `done` with `language` updates the chip, never moving it from `chosen` back down to `detected` or `default`. Keyboard focus follows the steps: after the user's own `.confirm()` it moves to `.create_plot()` before the first plot and to the header's `.show()` after it, a turn that reports the confirmation again leaves it where it is, and a key press on a composer button that a run replaces with Stop moves it into the message box, so a second press never stops the run. The **result card** (`app/src/sections/agent-chat/ResultCard.tsx`) reuses the plot page's overlay actions: the rendered plot shown inline as a blob URL, in a box that takes the loaded PNG's own aspect because the footer strip makes it taller than 16:9, with a light and dark switch that renders the other theme on demand through the theme toggle route, **Copy image** (Clipboard API `navigator.clipboard.write([new ClipboardItem({"image/png": blob})])`, falling back to download where unsupported), **Download PNG** for every rendered theme and **Open full size**; the adapted code in `CodeHighlighter` with **Copy code** (`useCopyCode`, one click), **Download plot.py** and **Download data.csv** (the pair runs unchanged); the change list and residual notes; and the quick-feedback control. The card has no composer of its own (since 2026-10-12): a change request or a question about the plot goes through the thread's one composer below it, and the assistant decides whether it is a change or an answer. Earlier versions stay reachable in the thread, each with its own image and code. The same card is reused unchanged when the feature goes public. `app/src/lib/sse.ts` parses the stream over `fetchWithAuth(...).body.getReader()`. The session language fires no event: the chat is admin-only, and the chip's numbers would be tiny. ## Repository layout diff --git a/docs/reference/api.md b/docs/reference/api.md index a26dd01e602..3099e4ee0c3 100644 --- a/docs/reference/api.md +++ b/docs/reference/api.md @@ -850,9 +850,9 @@ Until it has run, the feedback route stores the case and answers | `status` | `{step, attempt}` for a pipeline step: `adapting`, `checking`, `rendering`, `reviewing`, or `repairing`; `repairing` adds `outcome` and `findings`, how the round before it ended (see `rounds` below) | | `message` | `{text}`: the assistant's reply as plain text, at most 1,200 characters; a longer reply arrives cut to 1,200 characters when the turn ran the plot pipeline, and as the `out_of_scope` refusal otherwise | | `plot` | `{status, reason, attempts, artifacts, changes, residual_defects, version, rounds}`; `version` only on `ok` and `needs_attention`; `rounds` lists each attempt as `{attempt, outcome, findings, step, shipped}` (`step` is the pipeline step the round ended in, `shipped` marks the round whose render the result shipped), where `outcome` is `ok` (the review passed), `review` (the review named `findings`), `measured` (measured findings went to the repair), `render_failed`, `check_failed`, `answer_unusable`, `unreviewed` or `error` | -| `refusal` | `{code, text}`; `code` is `out_of_scope`, `needs_data` (the request needs data the service would have to fetch), `unsupported_content` or `budget`, and `text` is the fixed reply for it in the language the scope judge detects in your message, or in the session language for a refusal sent before the judge runs (`budget`, `unsupported_content`), which is English until your first message or your choice sets another (see [Session language](#session-language)): English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Chinese, Vietnamese or Russian, and English for any other language | +| `refusal` | `{code, text}`; `code` is `out_of_scope`, `needs_data` (the request needs data the service would have to fetch), `unsupported_content` or `budget`, and `text` is the fixed reply for it in the language the scope judge detects in your message, or in the session language for a refusal sent before the judge runs (`budget`, `unsupported_content`), which is English until your pasted data, your first message or your choice sets another (see [Session language](#session-language)): English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Chinese, Vietnamese or Russian, and English for any other language | | `error` | `{code, ref}`; `code` is `capacity` (also when the turn waited the run queue's maximum of 600 seconds, or the BFF's turn cap ran out while it waited), `deadline`, `guard_unavailable`, `upstream`, or `internal`; `ref` is the request id | -| `done` | `{llm_calls, tokens, bindings?, data_confirmed?, dataset?, language?}`: after a run, the session's bindings and whether the data is confirmed, so the page syncs its dropdowns and its step after a turn in which the root's `set_bindings` changed them; `dataset` only after a turn in which the assistant changed the data or computed it from a formula (see [Data changes](#data-changes)): `{preview, profile, bindings, warnings, context_lines, roles, changes, version}`, the dataset route's shape (`roles` at most 50; `context_lines`, the pasted notes, carried over to every version made from the paste) plus the turn's change lines, for the page's preview table; `version` is 1 when a formula made the session's first data; `language` after every run: `{language, source}`, the session language and how it was set (`default`, `detected` or `chosen`), so the page syncs its chip | +| `done` | `{llm_calls, tokens, bindings?, data_confirmed?, dataset?, language?}`: after a run, the session's bindings and whether the data is confirmed, so the page syncs its dropdowns and its step after a turn in which the root's `set_bindings` changed them; `dataset` only after a turn in which the assistant changed the data or computed it from a formula (see [Data changes](#data-changes)): `{preview, profile, bindings, warnings, context_lines, roles, changes, version}`, the dataset route's shape (`roles` at most 50; `context_lines`, the pasted notes, carried over to every version made from the paste) plus the turn's change lines, for the page's preview table; `version` is 1 when a formula made the session's first data; `language` after every run: `{language, source}`, the session language and how it was set (`default`, `pasted`, `detected` or `chosen`), so the page syncs its chip | The BFF re-frames the upstream stream instead of forwarding it. Refusals before the judge keep the bare placeholder. The rubric names both forms and says the placeholder's verdict belongs to the refused message only (in-053, a plot change after a refusal, regressed without that line). The eval cases use the coded placeholders; adv-067/adv-068 are the German and English continuations after a `needs_data` refusal. - `upload_dataset`: documented why the re-read and the conditional language write are atomic (no suspending await in between on the in-memory session service). - `import_case`: matches the placeholder by prefix; the session_language test covers `pasted` (version language first, session fallback). - BFF mock: a German paste sets `de`/`pasted` and the dataset answer carries `language`; detection yields to it as in the service. - Changelog and API doc: an English or unclear paste leaves the current language unchanged. The rubric counts a message that also asks for anything out of scope, text meant for use outside the plot (emails, posts, newsletters, summaries, translations) and plot text whose purpose is an advertisement, a call to action or a message to other people as out of scope, judged by intent: a name, a postal address, an e-mail address, a phone number or a web address in the data, the plot or the message is never on its own a reason to refuse, because users plot their own tax returns, contact lists and customer tables; a message whose only part beyond the plot is data to fetch, a plain fact question included, is `needs_data`, while a question about the user's own data ("which day was the warmest?", "mark the highest value") is in scope. A timeout, parse error or non-200 after one retry within 4 s blocks with a distinct `error{code:"guard_unavailable"}` that is excluded from the false-refusal metric; the retry waits 0.5 s first (`JUDGE_RETRY_BACKOFF_S`), because a 429 or a transport error retried in the same instant meets the same cause, and on a per-minute quota every failed call counts too.
